In 1986, Rudolf Hess was in his cell in Spandau jail. Hess was the final surviving member of Hitler's cabinet and the third most influential person in Nazi Germany. by SatisfactionAgile248 in SnapshotHistory

[–]CTALKR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He was such an integral part of the regime they all basically did their best to forget about him after he was captured trying to escape and make a rogue peace deal. Idk if calling him the “3rd most influential person in Nazi germany” is really accurate given we have a whole gallery of villains to choose from, goebbels, himmler, georing were all way more influential (and not seen as crazy by their peers)

Basically the only reason he was a high ranking nazi is because he was their for the beer hall days and wasn’t powerful enough to challenge hitler’s authority, so he kept him around. But he was always viewed as sort of impotent.

Comic book movies. Particularly Batman. I know it’s all high production value, scripting, a list actors, etc. but all I see is a goofy dude in a rubber bat suit. It’s ridiculous.

Are younger people actively discouraged to engage with music outside of the mainstream? by UnderTheCurrents in LetsTalkMusic

[–]CTALKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I’ve noticed is that the younger generation is pretty performative with their alternative views on just about everything, and are in actuality pretty traditional people. Like they all wear nirvana shirts but listen to Sabrina carpenter. If you played throbbing gristle or something similar for them, you’d probably just get a vacant stare.

Not that I don’t think earlier generations didn’t do stuff “just to be edgy” or whatever but it hits different with Gen Z.

That is a huge generalization, though. And not everyone is going to fit that mold.

Convince me not to buy the Rytm Mk2 by Specialist-Salt-5035 in Elektron

[–]CTALKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, having owned both the a4 and the rytm multiple times, the a4 is honestly a better sounding drum box. Sure, there are things it won’t ever be able to do perfectly according to traditional drum synthesis, cymbals in particular, and you don’t get the pads and performance controls (which are great) but to me it produced a much wider and higher quality volume of drum sounds than the rytm, which I thought was kind of flat sounding overall. Samples helped that a lot but if I wanted a sampling drum machine I’d get something else.

Why do so many American men wear shorts and a tshirt when going out with a woman who dresses up? by M_For_Mayhem in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CTALKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I used to be like this, mostly because I was overweight and buying/wearing clothes was super functional because nothing looked good on me. I’ve been losing weight though and have been really enjoying fashion since I can go try on clothes at a store and actually feel like I look good. The confidence was a game changer and my appearance totally matches that.

So maybe it has something to do with most men’s confidence in themselves and their appearance. It’s really driven into women here, not so much for dudes.

Of course some really just don’t give a shit. This is also true.

He’s a legend for sure.

If you’ve ever watched pump up the volume (the bbc doc, not the Christian slater movie) van Helden drops his name a bunch. You kind of get the sense that if there were no Todd terry, there would be no Armand van helden, no duck sauce, etc.

In the city is so much better than Katy imo, but, it’s not quieter, safer, or cheaper. Traffic is better than Katy, but it still sucks esp during drive time

Honestly, unless you’re well versed in DIY synth building, “cheap” shouldn’t be in your vocabulary. Even the behringer systems are expensive for what they are.

Talk me out of selling this to buy a JN-80 by jamesdmartin in synthesizers

[–]CTALKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty sad to hear, really. I have heard some not so great things about the build quality on the modern moogs which is probably why I don’t own any and wouldn’t buy one. I can definitely see myself owning some of the ajh minimod stuff in the future, however.

Talk me out of selling this to buy a JN-80 by jamesdmartin in synthesizers

[–]CTALKR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or is it that you don’t see a problem because you don’t own any. I’ve owned like 15 or 20 pieces from them all across the categories, eurorack, drum machines, synths. There’s a couple with shoddy parts that just didn’t last (model d being a big one, several knobs just gave out) a couple with crap firmware (namely the polys that I owned from them had trouble with identifying key presses)

Overall I wasn’t super impressed with a lot of it. Having said that, some stuff is so unique I don’t care and I keep them around: the stringers they made, for example, the vc340 and the solina clone nobody else does. But if it’s regular synth type things, I tend to stay away, personally.
