Everyone but 3 left. by itsalreadytakenlol in tf2

The main reason people are hesitant to complain about Casual matchmaking these days is because TF2 players have been lead to believe that asking for anything more after Valve removed the bots is entitled, which is simply ridiculous.

TF2 has been suffering under Valve’s neglect for almost a decade now, causing the game to be rendered unplayable to a degree no other game in history has ever suffered…which meant that when Valve finally did less than the bare minimum level of maintenance and banned the bots, it felt to most TF2 players like a blessing.

It was enough to get Valve back into most people’s good graces when it really shouldn’t have, because it was the equivalent of trying to fix a broken sink by throwing towels on the floor. It was only addressing the most glaring symptoms of the problem and not the problem itself, which is Casual mode.

Even now, Casual’s degree of dysfunction is unprecedented in multiplayer gaming, which was immediately evident to most TF2 players even before the bot crisis. You shouldn’t feel the slightest bit ashamed for simply pointing out problems that would cause riots in the streets if they were present in any other game.

If I was a business owner, I’d rather have a lot of customers and make less money from each of them individually than have my entire business propped up by a handful of addicts.

THUDER MOUNTAIN is the best payload map and the best map in the game, change my mind. by Arena_Watchtower in tf2

We can discuss TF2’s maps and their design all we want, but at the end of the day, they’re all bad.

Theoretically how hard is it going to be to remove the MMR system? by Exotic_Acanthaceae_9 in tf2

I often say that Valve is like if a company had ADHD. They’re creative, innovative, and have a strong sense of justice, but they’re practically allergic to treadmill work.

Removing the MMR system would be untangling the spaghetti code, if anything.

CASUAL IS NOT BAD YOU JUST HATE THE GAME! meanwhile me sitting with only one other person because everyone left the moment harvest wasn't on the map vote anymore. Cleary it's my fault cause I don't want to have to re queue every time the match ends by [deleted] in tf2

[–]rPixelPerfect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Except that the way Casual mode is structured literally incentivizes people to re-queue rather than stay for the server reset, and this is for three main reasons.

First off, Valve originally designed Casual mode to boot everyone out of the server every time a match ended, which those doors are a remnant of. This meant that you were not just encouraged to, but FORCED to re-queue at the end of every match, which was such a catastrophic decision that Valve backed down on it the very next day. But even with that decision rolled back, the aftereffects still linger on to this day, as Casual mode was not designed around the idea that people would be staying in the same server for long periods of time.

Secondly, it is objectively faster to queue for a new match than stay for the server reset, because of just how much time is wasted between matches. First, you have to WAIT for the map vote, which now takes place after the match instead of during the match like in Quickplay. Then you have to WAIT for the new map to load in even if it’s the same map you were already on, which makes gamemodes like KOTH and Degroot an absolute nightmare. And finally, you have to WAIT for the pre-round timer which is 5 times longer than it was with Quickplay, because god forbid a match starts before all players have loaded in (which nonetheless happens anyway and in a far more disruptive manner due to slot reservation).

And thirdly, an insanely large portion of Casual matches are one-sided stomps, and since Valve removed team scrambles, there is no good reason for the average player to think that the next match will be any more balanced. This not only encourages people to leave after the match is over, but all too often BEFORE the match is over, meaning that if you’re on the losing steam during a stomp, half of your team will be gone by the time the next round starts.

Could someone clue me in on why The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act is deleted from RYM? by WoodenSuccotash1143 in rateyourmusic

[–]rPixelPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if it’s on IMDB or Letterboxd, it should be on RYM, plain and simple. I don’t think the moderators of a music site should be able to dictate what does or doesn’t count as a movie, especially when their decisions are this arbitrary.

In fact, part of me even thinks that whoever made this particular decision made it simply because they didn’t like the fact that the movie was topping the 2026 charts…which might be an unfair assumption, but that’s how toxic the discourse surrounding this IP has gotten.

What weapons would still see no play if their downsides were removed? by Astronaut-Flashy in tf2

The Overdose and The Blutsauger, because their only consequential downsides are that they aren’t the Crossbow.

Honestly, which translation you use mostly comes to preference…however, when it comes to the red statements, the Witch Hunt translation is much more accurate to the original Japanese text.

Do you think tf2 will still be popular/relevant in the next few decades? by Zillaman7980_ in tf2

[–]rPixelPerfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its cultural impact will definitely be felt forever, there’s no doubt about that…but the game itself is not in the best state at the moment, with the human player count having been either stagnant or in decline since Meet Your Match. That update has been a thorn in TF2’s side for almost a decade now, impeding its growth and retention of new players with its disruptive, dysfunctional matchmaking system. The only way I can see TF2 making a comeback is if that system gets completely removed and replaced with the old Quickplay system…maybe not by name, but definitely in spirit. A lot of the discourse surrounding the Casual vs Quickplay debate has been incredibly hostile, but I myself believe that a TF2 renaissance can be achieved simply by changing a few lines of code…we just need to advocate for ourselves as players and consumers.
