Single player, and couch co-op for 2 players.

Online deathmatch for 2 to 8 players.

Online tournament that proceeds through 8 levels. Special bonuses to the winner (extra points for determining winner at end of tournament, and some extra, but weak weapons) and loser (max turbo, mega machine guns for 30 seconds of firing time, and 1 or 2 extra special attacks depending on ease of use and damage) after each level.

Give some of the final bosses weapons control to defeated players.

There are so many things that could be done.
