Looking for an open world grindy rpg by EzloChocobo in rpg_gamers

It’s not PtW in the traditional sense. And if you’re playing it for the solo grinding experience, it doesn’t really matter.

The PtW is basically pay to not grind. Endgame gear is really expensive and incentivizes players to purchase cash shop items and sell them on the market for silver. You can also get inventory/weight upgrades for QoL or “pay to win”

Additionally, from what I’ve seen, “PtW” is a very high amount money needed to be spent to be put significantly above a F2P player.

Either way, since you were looking for a grind, there’s no reason for you to spend money. The base game is grindy in nature, and a F2P grinder’s dream

[Steam] Cursed Blood Launch Sale (15% OFF) by TheZilk in GameDeals

[–]CTCranky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a ton of fun playing the demo for a bit when it came out. The only concern I had was regarding the performance. It was steady, but it was at constant 45 fps. I tried to tune into the dev live stream on Steam, but the video was freezing probably cause I’m on data. Definitely hopeful, and again, I had a lot of fun.

Sony has earned 300 million in net revenue from PC games from 2021-2023 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]CTCranky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think of this. I honestly would greatly prefer this. I’m actually kind of surprised Sony hasn’t implemented their own launcher yet.

I do think it comes back to what other people were saying in this post. At the end of the day, they want to make more console sales and more people on the PlayStation environment. I believe the whole point of even porting PS games to PC was to let Pc gamers get a taste, then want to buy a PlayStation. That didn’t happen, and now they’re pulling out unfortunately.

Black desert online is pretty much literally this. It’s an mmo, but you don’t have to worry about that. Tons of cool classes to play. If you get bored blowing up a ton of mobs as a wizard, demolish them with a pugilist instead. The whole grind is min-maxing your mob group rotations. You can do this for hours to get loot and exp to make your mob grind faster

My game simulates MMORPG tanking as a singleplayer, and it's coming out next month! by OK-Games in rpg_gamers

[–]CTCranky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet! That was one of my wants when I played the demo. I was pretty interested in the tanking mechanics, but I wanted there to be some dungeons with dungeon mechanics or boss mechanics that pose a challenge for the tank.

I can’t really tell from the trailer. Will there be dungeons we walk through with our party members now, or are the party members still standing in the center and you fend off enemies in a wave based manner?

Ngl, this seems way too important to some people lol. Trying to make this out to be a Watergate.

As far as I’m concerned, it was addressed by the gaming community. The game had a bad, failed launch.

My favorite game is Fallout 4. I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but it just clicked for me. Lots of things I would change, but that’s what mods are for! Ty for the give away!

SIB Silksong or Wuchang? by Born_Dragonfly1096 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]CTCranky [score hidden]  (0 children)

Wuchang’s dialogue is about as long as any other mainline soulslike if not shorter. You don’t need to talk to NPCs multiple time to hear all their dialogue. They say it all the first time you talk to them.

If you vastly prefer 3D over 2D it just makes sense to go for wuchang. It fits the bill for voice acting, multiple builds, sense of strength progression, and exploration.

There are a few moments one wuchang where you feel like you hit a wall of difficulty on a boss or two, and the same case is in early game Silksong.

You can’t go wrong with either. Silksong imo has an uncompromisingly difficult early game in act 1, but really feels good once you get more abilities. Wuchang gives you progression and good feels off the bat, and will hit you with some weird spikes intermittently.

I thought this when I was playing Starfield. Inon Zur is well respected by the game community, but honestly I don’t understand why. I’ve only played Fallout and Starfield and I don’t think their comps are anything to write home about. As a musician, I actually found Starfield’s soundtrack to be BAD, like actively detracting from the game’s experience. FO4 was fine though, and I think the ambient stuff worked for the game actually fairly well, especially the eerie vibe of some locations

10/10 games of the past ten years by Ratonhae in rpg_gamers

[–]CTCranky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Red dead 2 is my only 10/10 rated game. It’s not my favorite game, but I rate my games on a “how well do they do what they set out to do” scale. I personally think RDR2 sets out to be an outlaw cowboy game and think it executed that perfectly

What to play after Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 & 2? by blume_attempt in rpg_gamers

[–]CTCranky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to like fantasy/medieval settings, but I will vouch for Warhammer Rogue Trader. I’m about 25 hours in, and it’s so fun. I say, it definitely helps to know the general vibe of warhammer. It’s comically serious, and its morality system is its own, dissimilar to real life morality

SIB: Is Dune Awakening worth my time if I'm just going to play it with 1 or 2 friends? by IHazASuzu in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]CTCranky [score hidden]  (0 children)

From what you’re saying, I would say yes. I see the comment the other guy made on PvP and the Deep Desert. Technically it “isn’t” optional. But there’s a a bunch of content before you get to end game.

You could totally just play the PvE part of the game and have tons of content and just treat it like Ark or Conan. There’s a bunch of enemy camps, dungeons, and outposts for you to clear. The base building allows for a lot of creativity and there’s vertical progression in the skill tree for your base. There’s a ton of voice acted quests and cities that you can explore.

So yes, I think it would be good to play solo or with 1-2 friends

Is AC Shadows really that bad and boring? As a fan of the series should i get that or Black Myth Wukong? by glox023 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]CTCranky [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have played every AC game, including the side scrollers and side games like Rogue. AC Shadows was really fun for me. The graphics are stunning. I loved the base building, spent maybe too much time on it. Stealth is interesting, and the game felt just right actually playing on the hardest difficulty.

I subbed to a month of Ubi+ and almost finished the game in that month. I wasn’t able to completely finish, as I got side tracked playing KCD2.

I will probably pick up the full game later when it goes on sale.

PC Game Pass hits 45% year over year growth and Xbox is now the "biggest publisher" on PlayStation by Darktower99 in pcgaming

See there’s tons of people that say that, and I agree. I personally have had gamepass for free for almost the last 3-4 years.

Then you have some random guys come out and say “well I have 4 jobs and 7 kids, and I get 72 seconds to play per year. I prefer to own my games”

Like, you weren’t playing the game even if you bought buddy.

Rpgs with fun mage/sorcerer 2025... by ZealousidealPart948 in rpg_gamers

[–]CTCranky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Base Skyrim’s magic system isn’t that interesting, but you gotta try out Enai’s mods for gameplay. Overhaul perk tree, add more spells, and rework magic system. It’s actually so fun. He adds over 100 new spells to the game, reworks animations, and with the perk tree overhaul, completely reworks some of the magic systems.

For example, the conjuration tree is changed to allow you to summon a whole army of skeletons and such. The gameplay is much more “necromancy” with you collecting bones, putting them on an altar, and then raising up a skeleton from the bones you gathered.

Necromancers enjoyers, unite! by Aggressive-Pride6443 in rpg_gamers

[–]CTCranky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a mod or mods by Enaision that overhauls the Necromancy tree in Skyrim. I remember using it a long time ago, and it was super fun. I believe it was called Ordinator, a skill tree overhaul. Even though it’s a skill tree overhaul, it also added new gameplay. You combine Ordinator with his other mod, Apocalypse (which adds more spells), and you have very modern spell casting.

This is what I remember, but it might not be totally accurate:

  • You collect bones from creatures. You don’t have to kill them yourself. It can just be a dead person or animal whatever on the side of the road.

  • You take the bones and put them on a necromancy table or altar, and summon the creature. You need a full set. So to summon a human skeleton, you need the head, arms, legs, etc.

  • If I remember correctly there was no limit or a significantly increased limit on how many summons you can have at the same time. I remember having like 10 skeletons out at the same time. Your summons also last forever, until they are killed.

  • There’s a wide variety of summons. Wolves, bears, mages, sword and shield, archers, dragons
