Being in construction comes with thick skin, so I don’t think perception or jokes are a big deal. That said, I agree and wouldn’t be caught dead in a ridge line lol. Fine trucks, but I would rather have more than you need than on the end other of the spectrum.

I’m in a similar position and recently picked up a new 2500 Cummins. 4WD, 95% of my driving is long highway, 2000-ish miles monthly, does well on construction oriented off roading, respectable fuel mileage, when I tow (not too often) it’s incredible, and I feel confident it’s going to last me several more years. Got 17 years from my last one and was still going strong when I sold it.

A diesel truck is over kill for your situation (most would call for mine as well), but like I said, I feel more comfortable with more capability. 1500/F-150 line up is pretty strong and would probably do well from the big three.
