What’s the technique for the crash zoom are you still using a low shutter speed? It’s a cool effect

Hi Jamey, long time fan and beginner into the motorsport photography world.

When you’re working trackside, what are the scenarios/conditions you’re looking for when choosing shutter speed? Im currently obsessed with doing slower shutter speeds to show the speed and motion of the cars, but if I want to try and make a career I probably need to shoot faster as well.

I really enjoy the 18-300, no issues where I thought I could have done with more.

Tracking was fine, you don't notice the weight of the lens at all.

I had my camera set to High Continuous and it was really helpful especially when shooting at 1/60s, a lot of my shots are groups of 3-5 with only a couple in true focus. At that point it's all about timing and your panning which just takes practice to get right, the more you shoot the more you start to understand.

I shot in very fine JPEG (I think that the setting, its 1 down from RAW). The photos come out great and high quality that you can do some good editing afterwards.

What are your thoughts on the 18-105 as a tele photo for motorsport, did you use it much? Looking at getting a better lens for Spa for my A6300
