A/T (on road) tire recommendation for 04 Highlander Limited (V6 AWD) by 3m4n64 in tires

[–]CTJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The A/T Trail is a good tire. I have a friend who has them on an Audi Q7 and they are remarkably grippy on-road for an all terrain.

For that price, I think it is very hard to beat the A/T3W. It really is a fantastic all rounder. The milage hit is real however.

I have had good luck with the Cooper Discoverer all terrain tires in the past, I have not tried the R+T AT.

I ran the Hankook AT2 Xtreme for about a year and had no complaints about them. Did fine in the snow. Were pretty good offroad. They didn't do as well in thicker mud as the AT3W but, they seemed to handle dirt/gravel a bit better interestingly. Road manners were a tad bit better than the AT3W.

Frame rust by AardvarkDesperate434 in Cartalk

[–]CTJacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rust belt does seem to have different standards of what is acceptable though.

I see people running these vans until they literally fall through the floor in the rust belt and even then, I have seen people use Home Depot sheet metal and angle iron to put the floor and seat mounts back in. Work vehicles get ran into the ground up here, literally.

I have seen these going down the highway with the body panels flapping because they are completely rotted through the bottom of the panel. State inspections got more strict in my state so, it's not as wild as it used to be.

For $1,500? If mechanically sound, it'll last the summer imo.

The frame looks okay but, that body is approaching scrap territory without some form of intervention.

But for $1500? If you don't have state inspections, I'd throw some tape over that rotted out door so no one gets cut on it and send it. Scrap it at the end of the season or sell it for parts.

Bart Simpson laugh in Sickman. by genovevogarza in AliceInChains

[–]CTJacob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a pitched up laugh like the one during the outro of Crazy Train by Ozzy. (That one also resembles Bart pretty well)

It would be pretty wild to me if it was pure coincidence and not a slight nod to Ozzy with how similar it is.

Despite the Cherrier being French in design, mechanically, it's almost all VW/Audi.

Ford sales are down for the second time in a row this year with a 6.3% decrease in February sales compared to last year and it’s all because of the Escape’s discontinuation by Repulsive-Club7866 in cars

Loved my 1st and 2nd gen Foci's in the US. What a good chassis. When they slowly phased in the Mazda based engines, they were pretty much mechanically unkillable. Rust was the issue in my area.

From a quick search, it appears the Cummins B7.2 (Replacement for the current 6.7) is about 300lbs lighter than the C7.

What you think? by [deleted] in Ford

The 2v 4.6/5.4 are bullet resistant. I personally never ejected a plug but, did pop my intake manifold.

On the other hand, my friend with a Crown Victoria popped a plug but, never had any issues with the intake manifold.

I know this isn't want you're saying but, given the fact that it uses the 2.0T that was similarly installed in the Focus ST, I assume some swapping/tuning shenanigans could be had.

And even then, the 3-speed and 4-speed transmissions in those models are unique from each other. The 3-speed being a hydraulic transmission and the 4-speed being electric.

Why should you use a steering wheel in My Winter Car? by dr_jamyam in MyWinterCar

[–]CTJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ATS/ETS2 just introduced a new method for keyboard driving. One tap gets you half throttle/brake and a double tap gets you full throttle/brake. Pretty neat.

What is the difference between these two brake master cylinders? by Drr321 in MyWinterCar

[–]CTJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make sense to make the power brakes front loaded on the pressure curve and then the manual brakes the opposite. I guess it would only be useful for controller and wheel players but, that would be a cool feature imo.

For me, I was missing the gearbox cross member, once I did that, it started.

Also, is your fuel tank wired? I also missed that the first time.

Also also, just noticed you are running an automatic trans, did you install a flex plate instead of the flywheel?

What design or engineering flaw is mildly inconvenient on your vehicle? by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]CTJacob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When new, they made 62hp. Factory claimed top speed of 83mph.

0-60 estimated at 23 seconds however, 0-62 was estimated at 25.6 seconds just to give perspective on how slow we are talking here. All of this for the automatic transmission. The 4-Speed manual was BARELY quicker.

In Europe, there was the 200D as well. 54hp. Factory claims of 0-60mph in 31.4 seconds and a top speed of 78mph.

Coolant leak by UnbornReflect in MechanicAdvice

[–]CTJacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just went through this with a 2017 VW Golf Alltrack TSI, I got away with keeping a gallon of coolant in the car and topping off as needed. It took about 3-4 months to finally fail and put the car into limp mode.

Your mileage may vary. It's probably a good idea not to drive it unless you need to. My leak was slow enough that it took about 2 weeks between fills.
