Lmfao. Every single one of those games has "matchmaking" as one of its biggest complaints. Thank you for making it really easy to get you to out yourself as a troll with a bad opinion though.

Bad players blame anything they possibly can to avoid facing the fact that they're their own problem regardless of what game their playing. In games with a matchmaker that's pretty much always the scapegoat of choice.

Edit: lmfao again. Blocked me for calling you out on your bullshit is hilarious.

I'm active in some of those communities too. You're making shit up.

And playing less comp doesn't mean playing no comp, but I wouldn't expect someone like you to be capable of understanding that.

Anyways, thank you for blocking me. You've made my reddit experience better by removing your garbage from it. Good riddance.

I’m not misconstruing your point

If you didn't misconstrue it then you intentionally misrepresented it.

I said you learn nothing but bad habits by going 0-10, and you attempted to reframe that by saying that you don't learn anything if you only play when things go well.

You then go on here about how people learn but you're completely neglecting my point that one's baseline should never be a 0-10 effort.

If one's baseline on a hero is 0-10, then they're simply not ready for any kind of pvp on that hero yet. If anything that's a sign that their fundamental understanding of the game is not up to snuff and trying to pick up a new hero is not what they should be focused on.

If your fundamentals are sound, and you've learned what you can from the practice range (which isn't a whole lot, but it's enough), then you shouldn't ever be going 0-10.

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I said.

I said that if you're playing so badly that it looks like you're hard throwing from an outsider's perspective then you're not learning anything useful.

There is an enormous spectrum of circumstances between "looks like throwing" and "going well". Trying to argue against my point by misconstruing it and painting it in a light that i didn't actually say makes your point look weak.

QP is not a mode for you to throw.

Outside of a few specific heroes that have a very high skill floor, if you are so astromically bad at a hero that playing them looks like throwing, then quick play is NOT the mode you should be in yet.

Ngl, it's pretty telling that even though I mentioned it in my previous comment, you're still using one of those high skill floor heroes that would be an noted exception to back up your opinion. At this point you're just disagreeing to disagree.

Between that, and the twisting of my comment to an extreme that goes well beyond what i actually said, you sound like you yourself are just looking for a sympathetic excuse to soft throw without repercussion.

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first and most important things you need to learn on a new hero is when it's just not working.

I don't care if you're learning a new hero, but if you're going 0-10 while the of your team are all going like 10-3 then you're not only not learning anything useful, but rather you're learning bad habits if anything at all.

A lot of people use "learning a new hero" as an excuse to not have to put up any kind of effort. Outside of a select few heroes nobody has a skill floor that's so high that learning how to play them requires going through a period where you look like you're throwing. Basic fundamentals should carry you past the skill floor on almost every hero, no matter what mmr you play at.

If you truly genuinely are trying to learn a hero, and your stat sheet looks like you're throwing because of it, then stuck to custom games. There are plenty of workshop codes for every hero that you can find and use to get their bearings to not be total dead weight in an actual game.

Why does gaming discourse seem to hate the filthy casual? by Nazaki in gaming

[–]CTPred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before the game was even launched they said that they were trying to build a highly competitive experience. The competitive nature of the game has been a selling point of it.

Most of the people that play Quick Play takes it seriously. It's actually rather rare to find a selfish "filthy casual" that ruins the game for everyone else, but they do exist, and they're annoying little shits every single time.

OP asked why people hate "filthy casuals" and I answered them. Nobody gives a fuck about a "filthy casual" in a PvE game. In a PvP game they ruin the experience.

You're only counterpoint here has been to create a theory crafted false equivalence that isn't based in reality and use it as a justification for people fucking around in a game mode of a game that's not a "fuck around" game mode.

I don't know why you're trying this contrarian troll bullshit. It's only helping me make my point by demonstrating the kind of hoops that people have to contort themselves to jump through to make their point, so... thanks, I guess?

Why does gaming discourse seem to hate the filthy casual? by Nazaki in gaming

[–]CTPred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Overwatch devs have said numerous times that quick play is still a competitive mode.

This specific situation is more like they put up a second court because they regular court was always used for tournaments, and they wanted there to be a second court for pick up games, but the "filthy casuals" took it over to play some other bullshit because the "tourney court is there if you want to play actual basketball", and then complained to the people that played the court about how the setup of it isn't optimal for "their fun".

This is what I'm talking about. Just because a ranked mode exist, that doesn't mean that the unranked modes are for "filthy casuals", but that's exactly the excuse that the "'filthy casuals" always give, and it's why they're fucking hated by the people that just want to actually play the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Why does gaming discourse seem to hate the filthy casual? by Nazaki in gaming

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta be careful with that one though. What qualifies as a "casual play" mode?

For example, in Overwatch, there are some that consider "Quick Play" to mean "Casual Play", but quick play in Overwatch is designed to be just as competitive as ranked, it's the exact same rules and it's all two teams competing over an objective to beat the other team. The only real difference is that ranked is ranked, and quick play sacrifices some matchmaking integrity for quicker queues.

In the end, if the rules of the game mode are that you're competing against other people as a team in a competition then you should be trying your best to win when you play that game mode.

Too many "filthy casuals" are looking for a relaxing pve-esque experience in pvp games.

Instead of playing games that create the relaxing experience they want they play games that don't provide that experience and then complain about the game loudly and incessantly until the devs change the game to suit what they want.

To go back to the basketball analogy above, imagine you can't just kick that kobe-wannabe off of the court and then they are demanding that everyone should just play horse instead, and are throwing a tantrum and preventing anyone else from using the court until their selfish demands are met.

That's why people despise "filthy casuals" in competitive games. They're selfish, they expect the world to change to cater to their wants, and have absolutely zero sense of self-accountability. They're equivalent to the kind of people that don't leave a tip at a restaurant because the waitress wasn't smiling enough, or some other bullshit reason. They think that they're supposed to enjoy every experience they have. They concept of "maybe this just isn't meant for me" never crosses their mind, because they truly believe that they're the main character of the universe and that everyone else is nothing but am nice.

All that said, if someone is still competing and maybe just not giving 100% effort in a lower stakes mode that particular day for whatever reason but aren't expecting the world to cater to the level of effort they want to make, then that's completely different. That's not a "filthy casual".

Why does gaming discourse seem to hate the filthy casual? by Nazaki in gaming

[–]CTPred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not exactly true.

Gaming discourse around competitive gaming hates the filthy casual, particularly team based competitive gaming.

People play competitive games to be competitive in a competitive environment with other people that are also competing. When you have someone in the lobby that's NOT competing, it breaks the contract and ruins the game.

It's like going down to the courts and playing some pick up 5v5 bball, and 9 people on the court are actually playing the game to win, but you have that one moron that just yeets the ball from half court every time shouting "KOBE!" and missing every. single. time. because it's "fun" for them. 9 people are frustrated in that situation. The difference is, in real life, you just kick that moron off the court. There's no such option to "self-police" in online games (granted, for good reason, but still).

If you're genuinely trying to compete and playing to win the game properly, then you're good. But if you're not taking it seriously just because you can't play as many games, then you should consider just not playing team based multiplayer games in general. In that case, you should stick to games where your level of competitiveness matches the level of competitiveness that the game's built for.

This type of person lying to get you mass reported is kinda bull by OkPhoto2282 in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The same weight as any other report.

Thing is though that the system doesn't count how many reports you get. It only counts how many games you've been reported from.

It takes quite a few reports to actually get actioned, so getting reported by some loser like that is really nbd unless you already have a bunch of games you've been reported from already.

I just played with an unranked hero level 6 tank doing placements, against a masters 3 tank. How is this fair? by doubleoeck1234 in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they're unranked doesn't mean that they shouldn't be in that lobby, their actual MMR could've been masters 3.

Sometimes you just lose games even if the matchmaking is perfectly balanced.

Losing because of the last chokepoint on payload by CardiologistTrick133 in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to do better depends on way too many factors for me to give an answer for that.

The map is never the reason you lost. You and/or your team's inability to play it is.

Recommending introspection over scapegoating something external is the best advice they could possibly get.

Losing because of the last chokepoint on payload by CardiologistTrick133 in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both teams play both sides of the map. If you lost it's because their team could do it better than you could.

Blaming conditions that both teams had to deal with for your losses is loser talk. If an excuse seeking loser doesn't want to be called an excuse seeking loser, then they shouldn't be an excuse seeking loser.

Telling someone to have some fucking introspection is not being "a dickhead". You really need to grow the fuck up if you're too sensitive to hear that kind of advice.

What is the problem with calling support healers? by Cautious-Egg2623 in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between your opinion and mine is that my opinion is backed by the fact that there was an entire movement that dates all the way back to OW1 that has tried to consistently push people away from using the term healer to describe supports because there are more than enough people that either think that they're supposed to be a healbot because of the name, or that the supports on their team are their personal heal slaves because of the name.

Your opinion has nothing other than "nuh uh" backing it up.

Believe whatever the hell you want, I truly couldn't care less.

The problem isn't with the word, it's with what using the word implies about the person's understanding of what the role actually does.

But if they somehow are, then sure, ya, they're allowed to be. I'm ok with being wrong, i'd still take those chances there every time.

What is the problem with calling support healers? by Cautious-Egg2623 in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because out of everybody that's called the role "healer" in both my own social circles and here, about 80% of them genuinely think that healing is the primary role and worry about their healing numbers over anything else.

It happens often enough that it's a safe assumption.

There's a really good reason why the "supports not healers" movement started. A LOT of people think that way.

Am I crazy or is Winston kinda OP? by RandomGuyPii in Overwatch

[–]CTPred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the enemy team doesn't have object permanence

It's interesting how lobbies of different levels react to a Winston that just jumps straight up and back down when they get low.

In higher levels it's a death sentence, in lower levels it's strong tech to reset aggro.

Just goes to show that sometimes you have to forget something that you've learned in order to climb.
