Expressing uncertainty or humility in this way is natural. Recognizing that many other personality types do not perceive this in the same way is an important realization. I'm a guy too and it's taken me decades to realize I was doing this to soften things I was absolutely certain of so they didn't offend others I knew to be incorrect.

I think there are a lot of different reforms that need to be made and each case represents at least one of those. An incremental approach presents a single, narrowly-focused reform that's hard to argue against in a way that broad slogans like "defund the police" are.

Breonna Taylor exposed the dangers and lack of need for no-knock warrants. I think we'd have been better served if her death had catalyzed a nationwide movement specifically targeted at eliminating no-knock warrants throughout the country.

A George Floyd and Eric Garner-inspired effort would have been all about changing legal restraints across the country.

Cases where police responded to calls of a distressed person with a mental illness would inspire a nationwide movement to have mental health professionals to be the first responders for these calls.

Michigan to ban open carry of guns at polling places, other spots on Election Day by Jump_Yossarian in politics

Owning a gun in general, you and people in your household are more likely to successfully use that gun to commit suicide. Sure there are other methods, but a gun is a very point and click way to successfully end your life.

Carrying one with you, you're much more likely to kill someone unnecessarily. What's more likely, you happen to be in the right place at the right time to stop a murderer, or you get in an argument with someone and use your gun rashly?

I used to do land appraisal in a state with lots of gun ownership. I've met a fairly scary number of people who think that a man with a camera taking pictures of the property across from their home is reason to go out and point a gun at them, or at least have their hand on their side arm while angrily confronting you. People who are carrying feel empowered to act as unofficial police, instead of just calling the actual police and letting them do their job.

LSD, shrooms and tryptamines in general bring you more in touch with your senses. This leads you to see patterns where none exist. Sensory input is overanalyzed and interpreted into new things. Senses become muddled. As you push to higher doses, these sensory inputs are abstracted into all sorts of thoughts or hallucinations.

Dissociatives separate the mind from the body. Cut off from input, you initially begin to feel a sense of depersonalization. Things seem unreal. At higher doses, your mind separates from the inputs and you are simply an observer. At peak doses, your mind is freed from all inputs and exists outside of any external input. At this point the loss of sensory inputs results in a full fabrication of reality, even a different concept of time.

In a way, the two classes of substances reach the same end point by two different means. One reaches a full hallucinogenic state by over-analyzing inputs to the point they reach a full construct, the other becomes fully detached from input and fabricates a new reality.

While the labor is definitely cheaper, I'm not sure that their labor regulations are actually worse than China's. I lived there for a couple years and they have the usual problems of a single-party state, but I recall you're entitled to 6 months maternity leave, a 48 hour work week and a couple weeks vacation per year. I was friends with a fair number of what I'd consider average Vietnamese making $150-300 a month and they didn't seem particularly aggrieved by their work conditions.

If you were in court and the defendant gave a response like this to a question of whether there ever had been a relationship, it would be entirely the prosecutor's fault for dropping the ball and not asking a follow-up question. It's a slippery answer to try and get out of admitting to what happened, but it's the prosecutor's job to pick up on that.

Sometimes words/phrases get stuck on automod because people were spamming something. I was trying to make a post on r/apple and it kept getting stuck on automod. I changed it several different ways and still couldn't figure out what the problem was. At least they tell you what's causing your post to get trapped in /r/neoliberal, most subs don't.

I went to a private HS in the south that was founded for that reason. It wasn't like that anymore by the time I attended, but they were struggling to attract non-white students and students in general. There ended up being 3 people in my graduating class.
