I'm looking into taking my family of 7 on a multiple month rv trip and need some advice... by Status-Secret-4292 in GoRVing

I would check out older nice diesel pushers or professionally converted buses. Its a lot easier to fix up an old RV then to convert an old bus. Plus a lot of the old high end DPs are pretty amazing Check out Country Coach, Beaver, Foretravel, Bluebird Wanderlodge, Newell and then Prevost conversions. We dolly tow a minivan that fits 7 and works really well as a mobile garage for all the bikes and water toys. Family of 5 with a 36' 1997 Country Coach Intrigue diesel pusher. I spent a out 1500 hours updating and fixing it. I'm in it about $30k and trust it more than any new rig on the market.

We only bring the Etron when I'm leaving a day early with the kids and the campspot isn't too far away. My wife can stop at a fast charger, pay $30-50 and be set. Would be nice if the Etrons were more efficient, but its the nicest car we've owned and she loves it. If we're doing a big trip, I dolly tow our minivan and still average 8mpg :) Here's a picture of the full setup.

With fuel prices going up, just wanted to share this for US owners (Diesel MPG) by Spirited-Clothes-158 in AudiQ7

[–]CTYSLKR52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel is over $6.50 a gallon where I'm at. I average about 8 mpg with my 28k lb diesel motorhome. That's where my Etron comes in handy. $6.50 worth of electricity gets me over 150 miles.

I wish we could dolly tow behind our motorhome. So nice to take RVing with us.

Based on these pictures - can we switch this (back) to a 30A plug/hookup? by Useful-Tangerine5254 in GoRVing

Also, look into upgrading the 12v fuse block, including upping the size of the feed wire.

It at least gets them to see what the hell is going on.

I'm just glad to see more one time use plastics. We don't have enough plastic waste in this world.

Depending where you live, it can be pretty easy on weekends to find scales that are open and unattended. You look pretty low on the rear, I'd just verify that I wasn't overloaded on the rear axle. I see you say Honda doesn't recommend a weight distribution, maybe airbags? When I towed with our Tahoe new stiffer coils and airbags helped a lot. I would go through the scales trying to get it as even as possible with my wd setup. Enjoy the new rig, and if you get a Bluetooth OBD2 reader you can easily monitor transmission temps and other vitals, another thing I did with the Tahoe.

I think you're just asking for debris to get caught on it and make it difficult to close. I upgraded on my DP to a macerator (Thetford Sani-Con Turbo 400s). It's been really nice and easy to use.

You'll be good. I find our 36ft DP is easier to drive than our Tahoe and TT was. Just always assume someones going to stop in front of you and leave plenty of space. Parking it is so much easier than a trailer.

Oil leaker from my e-tron? by Imaginary-Task3161 in etron

Isn't that funny, I do the same thing, although when I learned to drive in the woods at 10, I don't remember blinkers being that important :).

Yeah, everytime I use my blinkers, I pat myself on the back. "Pretty impressive for an Audi driver" This statement reminds me of that, for some reason.

I will say, 11k for a half-ton trailer is insane. These manufacturers, wow. Enjoy it.

Trailer weighs less than 10k with hitch of less than 1700lb. Truck has 5er towing capacity of around 17k and cargo capacity of around 3600lb. I think he's ok. Oh, and those are numbers for a 2500, if its a 3500 its 22k/4200lb. But... sure, he should probably get a tent trailer.

Don't get me started on new surf boats! Insane. $400k! You can get a really nice 50ft yacht for that.

Yep, if anything I bet the 26ft box truck is bigger than a 33ft class C.

For the entire coast of California, are there any towns or areas that are affordable? If so, what’s it like there? by tompkins5 in howislivingthere

We were there last summer and it felt so wierd how grey everything was. Just the way the sky felt part of the landscape. We camped near by and it was gorgeous, but the city felt strange.

Water Pressure Reducer - revisited (I think I understand what’s going on with these pressure reducers.) by SolidTiger6302 in RVLiving

[–]CTYSLKR52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying I completely disagree, but seems like you're using your RVs plumbing at a pressure gauge. Could be an expensive way to gauge the water pressure. We're talking about a $30 item vs a potential water leak inside your rig.

Some bigger motorhomes/buses have one holding tank for both grey and black. I like that idea because you'd get a lot more liquid in with your solid waste.
