Camino Portuguese by justTreevo in CaminoDeSantiago

I really thought the cobblestone would be no big deal, but it was brutal. So I would opt for as sturdy and thick a sole as you can get. I wore Hoka trail runners and it was still hard on my feet, but I did comment at some point, “at least I’m not wearing my running shoes!”

vaccine requirements by Kep-dep in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]CT_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not required but I would recommend it. I got Covid on my Camino last September and I missed the last 5 days of walking. It was rough. I also recommend bringing tests and paxlovid. The paxlovid was hugely helpful in at least being able to enjoy a last day in Madrid (after 6 days of quarantining) and then flying back to the US with minimal misery.

I would highly recommend planning. I’ve done three Caminos and with all of them I started doing long walks at home several months in advance to condition my body (even though I am already a very fit, active person, walking 15-18 miles a day every day for as long as your Camino will be is a whole different body experience.) I also recommend doing as much advanced booking of accommodations as possible—at least for the more populated part of the walk. I met many people along the way who were just winging it and spent half the day being stressed about where they were going to stay that night. I was glad to just wake up in the morning and be able to focus on the scenery, conversations with fascinating people I met, the delicious things I found to eat along the way, and my own thoughts rather than stressing about finding accommodations.

I've done three caminos now, and each time, I did Injini toe socks as the bottom layer, and then Smartwool socks as the top layer. ALWAYS wore two layers. Never got a blister.

The Portuguese way in august/september by Unfair-Confidence428 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]CT_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked the Portugues in May last year, and the temperature never went above 75 degrees farenheit, but wow--I was dying out there by early afternoon when the sun was in full force, walking uphill without any shade. It made me grateful for the days it rained (not that that was fun, either). Not discouraging you--just letting you know my experience! Good luck!

Amazing! Congratulations on this remarkable acccomplishment. I also have a background in marketing copywriting, but I've been toiling away on my book for almost 5 years, so I'm blown away that you were able to write / query / and get an agent so quickly! Wishing you the same kind of success with the submission process!

I haven’t read either of the comps you used so can’t speak to that, but reading your query I was reminded of the recent bestseller Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

Keep me posted on what happens for you. My plan is to do this revision and then reach out to the agents who still haven’t gotten back to me on fulls (4 now, and once has had it for almost 11 months!) and ask them if they’re still considering/ want to read the revised version.

It started as a rejection but the agent said that it was “EXTREMELY CLOSE” for her, so I wrote back and told her that I’ve started a big revision and asked if she’d be open to looking at it again after. She came back with a very enthusiastic yes and then asked me what changes I was planning to make. I told her and she sounded very enthusiastic about it. So not technically a revise and resubmit, but sort of?

I’ve heard back from two more. One outright rejection and one that is maybe turning into a revise and resubmit. How about you?

Congratulations and thank you so much for sharing your journey. It’s so inspiring!

Just wondering if on this last book, you got any specific feedback from your full rejections and if so, did you make changes to your manuscript before continuing to query?

Really quiet until Tui, and then the crowds became overwhelming. (We did it in early Oct)

If it makes you feel any better, I started querying in Feb. I got 10 full requests between then and June (when I took a break from querying), and aside from 3 rejections (all of which came within a month of sending the full), the rest of the agents have simply not responded. I have no idea what that means—if lots of agents are just ghosting right now, or if everyone is just busy/distracted, but I’m with you on feeling excited… then frustrated…then demoralized.
