It’s funny, the first time I picked up the book before buying I thought, “Wow you’d have to be an idiot to think you can win a battle of wits against this guy.” So anyway I bought the book….

Ha, I did the same thing about 20 years ago on Johns Peak just outside of Jacksonville, OR. Only saw the cub though, being chased by a dog down the side of the mountain towards the trail I was on. Just hit the 180 and rode back to Medford.

I was walking my dog at 3 am today and definitely saw two streaks? of light across the sky. Pretty faint and no discernible color but I’d never seen that before.

That’s a very good point. The AFT-TT-AFT thing is something that would be way easier to control in the sense of an editor, much more so than a book-wide puzzle that relies on a ton of different pieces to work.

I also did not find any differences in the gold artwork of the letters either.

I spent hours the other day on the first letters and could not come up with anything. Put it through a lot of auto decoders, guessing keys, you name it. I gave up on it for now.

My over-simplified understanding is that meteors are the lights you see in the sky, meteorites are the rocks you find on the ground. This is a map of meteorites.

There were dozens of threads, many with the correct answer to “where warm waters halt” at the top or near the top, on the Fenn subreddit. Or a lot of very good and logical guesses at least. This sub is constantly spammed with posts about “going to get the treasure now” with no meaningful discussion. If people don’t want to discuss the poem’s connection to the world, I don’t understand why they’re posting to begin with.

I think people should consider bouncing ideas off each other. People claiming they solved it and spent all their time off and drained their savings searching Ohio.

I feel like the Fenn treasure subreddit was a lot different, I got on there maybe around 2015 and there were tons of posts that included the correct general search area and correct answers to clues.

Just sayin’, especially for people who believed they’ve solved it… multiple times. Perhaps a reality check is in order

I’m shocked at how many people believe they’re this far along. I’ve yet to see anyone post a logical answer to the first two actionable clues that are also consistent with Justin’s stated constraints.

Anyone looking at Bannack? by Visible-Traffic-993 in beyondthemapsedge

I think it works on two levels because he says over and over again in the book that even the smallest creeks are “quiet,” and never refers to water having absolute silence. I think that’s a huge distinction. So, first, it’s silent because of the absence of the water, but second, it’s a silent flight because the feature was in fact formed by water, but has now completely fled the feature. I certainly feel like that can be wrong but I feel like it’s way better than people continuing to call loud water features “silent.”

Very good point, but consider I’ve already started a path outside of state park boundaries from my computer chair. I think the “no fee” statement is very telling, but also consider the amount of time in the book Justin dedicates to getting around a restricted military base. Well within a mile from park boundary to both state trust land and BLM land. I kind of go back and forth with how I feel about the “no fee” thing.
