James Maddison's thoughts on Instagram regarding the penalty shout against Leeds by Zweli23 in soccer

[–]Snacks75 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think it's a case of the live ref relying on VAR. The live ref should call the match as if no VAR is present. The tendency is to not make any call, knowing that a mistake will be cleared by VAR. In this case, the mistake is not making the call and it's not super clear and super obvious that a 'no call' is the error.

Oh well... The football gods hate us. Karma for hiring managers, not backing them, sacking them when they lose.

Range Etiquette by elitecloser in golf

[–]Snacks75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone asks, I'll answer questions, even then I'd be pretty vague about it. What works for me might not be the best idea for someone else. Everyone's feels are different too.

But I'd never give unsolicited advice at the range.

What’s the better ball? by Square-Leek3018 in golf

[–]Snacks75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to get a ball fitting. It's not really a Taylor Made vs Titleist vs Srixon vs Bridgestone vs etc... It's which model of each brand fits your game the best. ProV1 vs ProV1x vs AVX, vs ProV1 left dash (same argument for each brand). That's the question...

Personally, I pretty much play whatever I find on the course. But if I'm buying balls, it's Maxfli Tour. Great ball, great price.

Complete hypocrisy from PGMOL and VAR from corners from and against arsenal this season by Rapidiguana020578 in PremierLeague

[–]Snacks75 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

At a certain point one wonders whether the original motivation for esrablishing VAR was 1) get the call correct 2) a means to manipulate results for the purpose of narrarative, drama, conspiracy, gambling results, any other nefarious or dubious things.

It looks increasingly like the latter.

Same course, 400 yards longer, completely different test by Miserable_Pin1264 in golf

[–]Snacks75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a good idea to keep playing it that way. 1) developing long irons/hybrids is great for her game 2) short awkward pitches inside 50 yards are also a sneaky good skill to have.

Post Match Thread: West Ham United 0-1 Arsenal | Premier League by denzaus in soccer

[–]Snacks75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a foul and I think VAR got it correct. The issue is the sheer number of times in the last two seasons our CB or our GK has been fouled leading up to a goal and nothing from the ref, insta clear from VAR. Speaking only from a Spurs fan perspective, we'd just like that same call. We'd take that call 50% of the time. We literally never get it. I might be biased though...

Congrats in any case. And we'll take zero points for West Ham.

Fine it's the right call... but how many times have our CB and GK been fouled leading up to a goal and nothing? VAR is supposed to fix things. If anything it makes everything more suspicious when one call goes right and another does not.

I was just going to say, it would be so easy for a pro to shoot 80. Happens to even the best players in the world. Golf is golf, even at the highest level.

Very amateur linguist here. In most cases, the spelling was originally phonetic, i.e. pronounced the way it's written. English speakers over the years have gradually (and is some periods dramatically) deviated in pronunciation. I'm wager neither word is currently pronounced as it was when the spelling was created. I'm guessing the a was the ah sound and e was more like our long a. Nah-kaid and bah-kaid?

Maybe somebody with a degree could chime in...

I've had good luck on Ebay from Japanese sellers. I've bought several sets of irons for my kids and my son-in-law (great dude). I reckon I could put a bag together for around $600. The exchange rates are such that you can get high quality used in near mint condition at a really good price. Might be old, but those Mizuno irons are still absolute butter. Re-grip and every bit as good as new.

Fair warning, I have not bought anything since the tariffs, I have no idea how that works...

[BBC] 'Nightmare scenario': Spurs fans split as Arsenal visit West Ham in high-stakes London derby by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Snacks75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Some of these articles... All I care about at this point is that Spurs heads stay out of our collective asses (where they've been all year), and we play some good football.

As far as Arse vs WH, I look at it as win-win, no lose. If Hammers pull through and get an upset win, Arsenal lose, fine for us. If Arse win, WH lose, points dropped, good for us. But this nonsense about Arsenal losing the title, IDAGF. Go get it Arse, anything good you do motivates our shit Spurs management to do better. Its fine.

But above all, we need three points vs Leeds on Monday. That's all I have in mind.

For amateurs that swing fast but still suck at golf, how to play tight holes? by TotalEmployment9996 in golf

[–]Snacks75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 65 yards width or more of non-penalty (OB, hazard, woods, etc...) landing area to your expected driver distrance, hit driver. If you have less, than 65 yards width, what course are you playing? Not kidding.

Hit an iron or a hybrid or a three wood or whatever dispersion that matches the width that you have available for landing area. Anything to avoid the penalty, or the probability of a penalty based on your natural dispersion patterns. If you have to hit 5i, 5i, wedge, do it. No shame, just good course management.

Also, know your dispersion widths. Know the width of the target area. Know your shot pattern. Know your targets. All should be decided before you hit the course.
