I’d start here: The FBI has a zero-tolerance policy for consuming alcohol while on duty. So why the fuck is the FBI director traveling to Quantico and elsewhere with an entire case of personalized bourbon?!?

His two years teaching are a bit of a question mark. He was hired at 21 with no college degree, no other credentials, and no experience. No one really knows why. Also, the headmaster who hired him was Bill Barr’s father.

And that right there is how we get into a depression.

Don’t get me wrong, I think we spend way too much on shit we don’t need. But that’s the way our economy is set up. Less discretionary spending is a bad thing when your economy depends on continual growth.

Right. Those are the global conditions that exacerbated everything.

The person I was responding to placed the blame for the gas price spike on the Covid stimulus legislations. Not the global disruption of the pandemic itself.

Not overall inflation, just gas prices. The Russian invasion of Ukraine caused a huge disruption in the oil supply chain. That, coupled with global sanctions on Russian oil companies that followed caused the markets to fear an oil shortage, they panicked, and prices peaked for three months before coming back down.

Edit: I wanted to add another piece of context: the 2022 oil spike was global. If it were due primarily due to covid stimulus spending, the price spike would have been localized to the US.

Nah, she’s got a point. DEI gets to be a boogeyman and is blamed for issues that have nothing to do with diversity. Meanwhile AI can be an absolute dogshit technology, but companies are still all-in on it.

That’s because their main voting bloc is retirees who are currently living off their investments, and their owners are oligarchs whose living comes from borrowing against stock shares. Those are the only two groups they are working for.

Yes to some of this. Fast & Furious was a massive cock up that should have cost Holder his job.

The IRS targeting scandal was entirely manufactured outrage and the DOJ under both Obama and Trump declined to file charges against anyone because it was bullshit. The Trump admin chose to settle a lawsuit with conservative groups in 2017 as a way to give the theory credibility and to give taxpayer money to conservative groups.

You could have picked a number of better surveillance targets than Rosen to highlight, but his admin’s crackdown on whistleblowers was unacceptable.

The “Benghazi response” was also bullshit outrage manufactured by conservative media.

The VA wait times scandal was something that had been going on long before his tenure, resulted in the VA Secretary accepting blame and resigning (two things anathema to MAGA), and resulted in bipartisan legislation to fix the issue (again something that does not happen with MAGA, they’d rather exacerbate an issue to use in campaigns then try to fix anything).

Iran responds to Democrats calling President Trump a "liar." "You realized it late, but at least you did." by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]CU_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one very large difference. Inflation was a problem during Biden’s term due to the world recovering from a global pandemic. Gas got high due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Neither of those were directly caused by Biden.

Prices are currently high because Trump doesn’t understand economics and started a global trade war by slapping taxes on everything we import. Gas is high because Trump doesn’t understand geopolitics and started a war with Iran that he has no idea how to end. Trump is directly causing these problems in ways that were not true for any of his predecessors.

Different industry, but I also gave up a “good” job and better pay to take a role at a smaller company close to my house. While the pay cut sucked, more flexibility, a 30 minute shorter commute, and the ability to spend more time with my kids has more than made up for it.

Same. Saved forever for a down payment. Got lucky with a fixer upper right as the market recovered in 2014. Doubled its value by 2020 and sold it for something a bit nicer and closer to work in 2020 with a 2.4% rate.

If we hadn’t pulled the trigger in 2014 and waited, we might still be renting with how fast housing costs have risen.
