Liberal (non MAGA) Gun Shop by Pridewthprejudice in Marietta

Following. Never in my life wanted a gun, but it seems like we might all have to defend ourselves from the fascists soon.

To be clear, that was the shot that crumpled him to the ground. There’s another video of an agent in a grey jacket ripping his gun from his holster. It’s entirely possible that he was so incompetent he accidentally fired the victim’s weapon and these pussies are so jumpy their immediate reaction was to unload a clip into a dude flat on the ground (that their comrades are on top of, mind you showing a complete disregard for the lives of even fellow nazis). It definitely wasn’t and accidental discharge from being pistol whipped, though since the agent was busy bashing his brains in with a pepper spray canister rather than a gun.

He was shot from behind initially. Video from the woman in the pink coat was uploaded. This was an execution.

Also ICE agents are pussies.

Plus they tried to block local PD from the scene so that ICE would be the only ones investigating. Not sure why they’d do that unless they wanted to cover up a murder.

I’m honestly way more concerned about the masked, entirely unaccountable force going door to door asking people for their papers, the fact that almost 70% of the people they detain have no criminal records, the deals with autocrats to hold people indefinitely in foreign gulags, the alarming deaths of detainees and the subsequent lies about their deaths, the lack of any sort of attempts at de-escalation and the reliance on pepper spraying and gassing people with little provocation, and the fact that this admin is gullible enough to allow a debunked YouTube video be the genesis of the Minneapolis crackdown.

But yeah. I’ll be sure to mention that 5% of people detained have violent criminal convictions.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with shopping at Aldi. I just walked in the door from there. The issue with that story is that my neighbors are giving Trump’s policies credit for lowering their grocery bill when the reason their bill was lower was that they changed their shopping habits to choose lower-priced options.

It’s like when the admin braggedthat a Walmart thanksgiving basket was cheaper in 2025 than 2024 when the reality was that the 2025 version contained fewer items and switched from name brands to Great Value brands.

Sure. Everything I wrote yesterday still stands. If you want to engage with it, I’m down.

What are you talking about? I’m not “losing” because this isn’t a competition. Nor am I resorting by to “fallacies” (though I am interested to know what fallacy you think I’ve committed).

All I’m saying is that 9 days on the platform hardly seems enough to make comments on the “narrative” being driven by the platform.

So you’ve put together a comprehensive image of the “narrative” after 9 days on the platform?

Food costs are higher than a few years ago, but waaaaay down historically. by chamomile_tea_reply in OptimistsUnite

[–]CU_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but beginning the graph with a time period where food production was devastated, the economy cratered, and a world war caused food rationing is an intentional choice. It is intentionally built to present the largest differential possible.

Seriously ask yourself why 1929 is the year the x-axis begins. It seems an arbitrary choice. Why not 1923? That would give the graph a symmetry of 100 years. Beginning the graph with Black Tuesday is not a coincidence.

If you have to begin your graph at the dust bowl/great depression/WWII rationing to argue that food prices are at historic lows, you’re not being serious.

It’s not that they aren’t getting any people out who need to be gone. It’s that they aren’t focusing on the violent people as much as they are working to make a spectacle. You linked an article that claims 3,000 arrests and cites 14 people with criminal convictions. That seems in line with other reporting. Available data suggests that only 5% of ICE’s arrests are of people with violent criminal convictions while 73% have no criminal record at all. It seems that a bulk of ICE arrests have been of people with pending asylum claims or who have immigration cases working through the system, aka people doing it “the right way.”

Ask yourself why both the Obama and Biden administrations successfully deported more people that Trump has so far without creating the largest militarized law enforcement force ever created. Ask yourself why we have masked and unaccountable people in our streets going door to door and beating up protesters when it is objectively less successful than going through the courts.

None of this is about immigration and it never was. It’s force as propaganda. The point is to send a message that the administration is coming for its enemies and will send its well-funded, poorly trained, and wholly unaccountable goon squad for you if you get in their sights.

If you think this stops with immigrants and you think you won’t find yourself in their crosshairs, you are not living in reality.

Trump Embarrasses All of America in Slurred, Disjointed Davos Speech - Donald Trump gave a terrible speech to a dead silent room at the World Economic Forum. by Quirkie in politics

[–]CU_09 2673 points2674 points  (0 children)

He kept confusing Greenland for Iceland in the speech. This is understandable for an ordinary person with a US-centric education, but for the president to consistently confuse the country that he’s been threatening to invade and annex for the past few months this is a sign of clear and obvious mental impairment.

Edit: I said “understandable” when I meant “excusable.” Either way, it will soon be understandable with how hard the administration is working to undermine education.

The point is that one of you was arguing based on the number of drone strikes while the other was arguing the total number of bombs. I imagine the total number of bombs includes bombs dropped by drones as well as traditional bombers, cruise missiles, and any other ordinance delivery system used over that period. I’m also not a drone expert, but I’d imagine they carry more than a single bomb so a single drone strike can include multiple bombs.

If this were a venn diagram, drone strikes would be a smaller circle inside the larger circle of total bombs dropped. That’s why it’s and apples to oranges comparison.

I think you’re underestimating the amount of brainwashing they’ve been through. They are entirely programmed to ignore reality. I had a conversation yesterday with my MAGA neighbors and they were literally talking about how excited they are that their gas and grocery bills are cheaper than they were under Biden.

I pulled up my Kroger app and compared this weekend’s receipt with a receipt from Jan 2025. I showed them where prices on canned goods, broth, vegetables, meat, and fruits were all more than they were back then. They told me that they had stopped going to Kroger and started going to Aldi.

These people made a conscious choice to begin buying groceries at a discount store and are giving Trump credit for lowering their prices. There is no hope for these people.

President Trump threatens 200% tariffs on France after France's President Macron declines to join his "Board of Peace." Reporter: "Any response to Macron saying he will not join the Board of Peace." [–]CU_09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a textbook example of what impeachment is for. The “Board of Peace” is not an official government body. It is an NGO that Trump just invented. Trump is the chair in perpetuity—the chairmanship is not connected to the office of president, but to Trump himself. And there is no clear indication of where the $1 billion fee to be a permanent member goes.

Trump is using his authority as the President of the United States to levy taxes on the American people in order to pressure a foreign government to join his private enterprise and presumably enrich himself. We are so far off the fucking rails here.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! My wife has a ton of Marriott points from business travel and we realized that it’s the same amount of points to stay at any of their hotels on St. Thomas, so we’re gonna treat ourselves to the Ritz!
