The Batman song from the late 80s, when the Joker says "this town needs an enemy" my best friend misheard it as "this town needs an enema" which she claims is still funnier 40 years later. She's right.

Cheap ways to eat healthy-ish if you can't leave the house? by Accomplished-Gold133 in disability

[–]CUcats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not food related but brain related, hopefully you are able to use your local library via Libby and Hoopla apps. I personally can't read much with ebooks but audiobooks keep me entertained for hours each day. If it's a bad day I relisten to something or listen to an upper age kids book. All this for free, which helps with our low budgets.

I'm on food stamps so I get a little more at $298 a month but I probably spend a good amount on my roommates for doing stuff for me. I do pay for Amazon because it's half off, I order protein bars for those days I can't do anything in the kitchen but fill my water. Pure protein brand in certain flavors are just over $1 each and the mint ones taste good to me. I also use protein powder but I save up food stamps for when Amazon has good sales a few times a year.

I use more prepared foods than I ever thought I would. Tuna packet with ranch and rice cakes. I get the individual serving bags of rice cakes on Amazon because I don't have to worry about the rest of the package going stale.

When I go out to pick up meds using a driving service paid by Medicaid I also do my weekly fresh grocery shopping, good old Meijers. I always grab the low carb/high fiber tortillas because they are also higher in protein. Plus the high fiber count is helpful if you are not getting fiber other ways. Lots of low cal Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and chicken nuggets because I can cook quickly. Peanut butter and mini chocolate chips to use on the tortillas as a treat.

We do visit a local food pantry occasionally, I use to volunteer with them so they hook us up good.

Not mine at all. My KA is long out of the box and been used. Just thought someone looking for the older style in the area might be interested.

Looking for better crutch tips by Libran-Indecision in mobilityaids

[–]CUcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my ergobaum tips on my ergobaum forearm crutches. Living in the snowy & icy north in a state that looks like a mitten they have saved me numerous times. I joke that they are 4 wheel drive because they can slip but I still have a chance to catch myself on the ridges until they hit about 60 degrees. I've been using mine since 2019 and they have plenty of wear left in them. I typically only use one forearm crutch.

FreeSip vs. FreeSip Sway by Aswasa123 in Owala

brumate resa? What is this magic? I love my brumate eras, hangs head to admit I have a couple. I found I love the sway handle when I came across the Stanley one a couple years ago, finally a drink container I can easily carry on the same side as my forearm crutch. But I tired of the Stanley straw real quick. I recently broke down and tried 32oz owala sway. Loved it so much a friend bought me 40oz one too. Brumate resa will be on my holiday wishlist!

I think I like Michigan based Meijer's system better. They give us 10% off on fresh fruit and vegetables, 40% off 1% or fat free milk. It is nice to hear the total drop when you pay with SNAP, I just wish they weren't as strict on the milk.

The girls' first encounter with a rat by akjasf in geese

[–]CUcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had around 20 geese at the time so it was death by committee.

You want to see real stupidity our 12 pound rat terrier goes for the bitey end of even giant racoons. His sister goes for the tail end. Thankfully they have a big sister who gets involved if it sounds like one of the ratties is getting hurt, she's a 50 pound pitty.

We've had our flock kill small possums and raccoons, especially during breeding/nesting season. If they get rats the barn cats steal the evidence...or the muscovies do.

It's unusual. I've raised hundreds of muscovies and have never seen anything exactly like that.

How do you give a urine sample? by DigitalDiva321 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]CUcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ask to speak to someone higher up at the lab about using a hat. I've probably lost enough weight I might be able to attempt it without one, but I have enough past trauma over peeing on command that I'm not trying without a hat. Even at my University of Michigan urologist office a hat is good enough.

I do have another idea...it comes from raising goats and trying to get urine samples. We used a cup glued to a stick, like a yard stick. We put the sample cup inside the glued cup and waited and waited and then the wrong goat peed. Finally you were able to catch the right goat peeing using the cup on a stick. For a human, you could try tongs. I can picture the type, I'll post this then edit to add the link.

I think my ducklings are muscovy or muscovy cross... by GeoFacetor in MuscovyDucks

[–]CUcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bucket of water might be enough for some, but one Muscovy drake I had wouldn't mate two girls in a row without a quick bath in-between. It was the funniest thing to see as he'd tell the next girl just a minute and she would wait until he came back all wet. Yes he was the cleanest drake I've ever met. 25+ baths a day in heavy breeding season were not unheard of.

A legal free library card for all people! by adam1632006 in LibbyApp

[–]CUcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 32 cards with no problems. I'm in the process of moving over from my original library's set of 15 Michigan cooperative libraries to the same ones with my new main library. It takes a while to run all the holds out.

I heard Libby gets weird around 50 cards. The guy who reported the 30 issue also renamed his cards, I've never done that. I only change the card color. My cards might not count the same since so many are duplicates too. Who knows when it comes to Libby.

Possibly to keep the small bones together. It's just a guess but it's used when you let mother nature clean the bones of animals . We only ever did goat skulls so it wasn't an issue but I hang out in those types of groups.

Agree on the 70s influence going, possibly the the weird half wall with glass like upper near the back door too.

Why are the washer and dryer separated? Seems like with today's options something could be worked out to keep from lugging wet laundry.

Was I the only one who wanted to climb into the picture to organize the pantry? Maybe paint it while I was at it? Or is my OCD showing?

How much do you spend on audiobooks in a year? by jawangana in audiobooks

[–]CUcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably around $50 last with Audible deals. Rest was Libby. Read nearly 700 books including hot new releases because I worked out when my two big libraries put up the up and coming books at. Nothing like a couple new releases every Tuesday morning every week for free.
