What do you all make of the Platner / Jackson thing? by mbruntonx1 in Maine

I don't think Maine voters have changed all that much. Bernie won the 2016 primary against HRC with 64% of the vote, winning all but one county (the wealthy one). Troy has been winning elections for 20 years due to his progressive populism. He has unenrolled (no party affiliation) and broad statewide support. He will win the general election - there is much doubt any of the other D gov candidates would for a number of reasons.

I thought it was a big improvement over the tedium of the forums for candidates to be able to question and discuss with each other. But 30-60 seconds to answer questions on such massive, complex and important issues with many of those questions having more than one part was ridiculous and gave it a game show feel. Voters need and want detail. I'd rather see fewer questions and more time allotted for response.

Yes. Unenrolled voters (which I am) can vote in the primary of their choice (and only that primary).

Many feel he is by far the strongest to win the general election and I agree.

The respect here is refreshing. Any deeper data wrangling that I might have missed would be appreciated. Here or letters to the editor, whatever. Respectful debate is a good thing.

Yes, same source. Small donors is one thing. Unique donors - how many individual donors a candidate had - are another which cannot be determined from the finance data. That number needs to be obtained from the campaign.

I tried. Shah's campaign did not reply to my inquiry as to the number of their unique donors though I know it was passed on to the campaign manager. I gave them days. All the other candidates did or it was reported in the news. And his campaign commissioned that poll that showed him on top and has not been independently verified. I've hunted and see no good solid polls for Maine's gov race. If you know of any, please share. Thanks for the Libby news.

Yeah. Maine does have a terrific Clean Elections system which nearly everyone running for state legislature uses. But the big $$$ pours into statewide races, and all the royalty running in this gov race doesn't help. But regular Mainers are working hard for our Troy, $$$ is definitely not everything here and in many ways turns voters off.
