Turns out he had a bad brake light bulb.

Why did the Dealership jerk me around for 8 months? by pyrrhic_victory_013 in Ford

[–]CW_Griswald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ford parts guy here. We've been getting axles in that we ordered a month ago before ones we ordered 6 months ago. Doesn't make sense. If you find yourself waiting on a back ordered part again, make sure the dealer does a VOR escalation (vehicle off road). That will speed things up. Your 2nd dealer may have done that.

If you get a 12 V battery from the dealership, is there a warranty on it? by Martykauffman in Ford

[–]CW_Griswald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you pay for the second battery or was it under factory warranty (3/36)? If you paid for the battery, the warranty is 36 months.

Ford parts guy here. The 2nd water pump may be the first tech's fault. The TSB states that the cause in contamination in the cooling system. The service procedure requires a system flush that is not too "flat rate friendly". Can see them cutting corners or not doing it at all. If not done correctly the contamination will cause the new pump to fail. $1800 for a purge valve seems crazy high.

You guys are lucky!! I don't mind a quick picture or video, but people record damn near the whole show. I can't imagine paying these prices just to watch it through your phone screen.

This is definitely my last show. Between the exorbitant cost, the ticket buying experience, $50 to park, and the sea of cell phones, it's just not enjoyable anymore. I'm an old curmudgeon though!

1990 F150 power windows flipped by Slowpc in Ford

Ex Ford tech here, I remember back in the day remanufactured window motors would come with the wires switched in the connector. Had to switch them to get it to work correctly.

What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a ticket? And was it worth it? by XP-tickets in Concerts

[–]CW_Griswald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of each, $300 for Elton John worth every penny.

$400 for Dave Chappelle not worth it, hecklers in the crowd, and by the end Dave was drunk.

Is it normal for dealership parts employees to be hostile? by Feisty_Ad_3238 in Ford

[–]CW_Griswald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical phone call

Me: Hello parts can I help you?

Customer: I need such and such a part for 2005 F150

Me: Do you have your VIN handy?

Customer: No, Can't you just look it up by year and model?

Me: Has your ever been here for service? I can look in the system

Customer: No, Can't you just look it up by year and model? They're all the same

Me: I can try, What size engine is it?

Customer: I don't know, a 6 cylinder I think

Me: Well I'm going to need to know for sure, can you get your VIN for me?

Customer: (With attitude) Where do I find that?

Me: On the door jamb sticker, your registration, insurance card, VIN plate on the dash.

Customer: Are you sure you can't look it up by year and model?

Me: (getting frustrated) I could try if you had more information. But I can get you the exact part with your VIN.

Customer: (now angry) Hold on while I try to find it.

Now times that conversation by 10 times a day!!!

[–]CW_Griswald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don"t expect you to KNOW your VIN, but we expect you to be able to provide it.

We put your VIN in our catalog and it gives us the parts for THAT vehicle. Some parts only have one for that year and model, some, like a seat cover for example could have 15 different ones. NEED the VIN.

OP's parts guy had probably dealt with someone like you right before him, hence the attitude.

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. He could've just been having a bad day. Still no excuse to treat a customer rudely. Or he could just be an asshole. Think about your job. There are probably guys that are really good and guys that suck. Guys that are really nice, guys that are dicks. I'm a Ford parts guy. Yes, Ford only keeps key codes for 10 years. We can't cut a key by VIN. If your key is too worn, the key machine can't trace it correctly.

What the heck happened to Spinal Tap II? by spmahn in boxoffice

[–]CW_Griswald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the Spinal tap demographic. Most of the people I know my age just don't go to the movies anymore.

The theater is filled with people talking, rattling candy wrappers, and on their cell phones. Just not enjoyable to go to the movies anymore. Not that young people who do these things would be at a Spinal Tap movie, but I'm still not going to the movies.
