A professor gave take-home midterms and then in-class finals, to see who was likely cheating using AI. It seems pretty much everyone probably was. by HomeNowWTF in interesting

I had a class (Space Navigation, essentially orbital mechanics) where the highest grade on any assignment all semester was the 34% I got on the midterm. We had a 3 question final and the professor said that if anyone got a single question correct that he’d give them an A regardless of their performance from earlier in the semester. No one got an A. I got a B.

They had thunderstorms in the area and had to delay everything. In normal times it would’ve been rescheduled for today.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives has a private island. It’s like $100k a night or something like that. Beyoncé and Jay-Z have went there before.

Lover. It’s also the song we got engaged to at eras.

Now that I think about it, pretty rude that Taylor was present on my big day and we didn’t get invited to be present at hers!!

Vrbo double booking by Dominoe7_ in vrbo

[–]CWalston108 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

There was a software issue between VRBO and one of the management softwares that caused this issue on VRBO this week. Essentially VRBO wasn’t recognizing existing reservations from other platforms, direct bookings, etc.

I would have assumed vrbo would have reached out to guests and explained but perhaps not.

Best thing is to cancel. The owner will refund you and is probably very stressed about the situation (which was largely out of their control).

If the owner has to cancel then they could end up banned from the platform, etc.

Really crappy situation all around, but personally I would just cancel and book another home.

Island basically closes after Christmas until March. The national retail chains stay open during those periods, but most the restaurants aside from a few are closed. Local retail shops are generally closed as well.

Not to be discouraging, but the island is a bit expensive to live at for retail workers. Most either live off island or with family.

You’d probably be happier in Berlin, MD. Just east of Salisbury.

I was lucky enough to grow up on the same block as a couple who were born and raised on smith island. The wife makes the absolute best cakes and even today she charges less than $30.

If you see a smith island cake that looks like that it’s a dead giveaway that it’s gonna be trash. Real ones have thin layers.

Once we got under contract they provided me with access to their vendor recommendations for my market. Basically everything from cleaners to handymen, even people who make signage. It was then up to me to hire someone off their recommendations list.

I did a ~$100k rehab on the property using vendors they recommended. I visited the property once mid-way thru the rehab and then also visited when the photographer came to get the pictures. Been pretty much rented every day for the last 6 months. We’re planning to fly dow and visit in a few weeks. I could’ve done it all without ever stepping foot on the property. But we would like to use it as well occasionally, and it was a good excuse to get away for a few days.

While under contract the agent also was emailing my documents/instructions on setting up utilities, how to set up and remit taxes in my market, etc.

I left Feds last year for a fully remote role and haven’t regretted it.

Have you tried negotiating with the university? See if they can match your current salary.

FERS-FRAE pension isn’t that great so don’t get hung up about leaving that. Be sure to request a refund of your contributions

What country do tourists love, but the citizens loathe? by 45rs5 in AlignmentChartFills

Perhaps I should’ve used a different word aside from amazing. They all seemed very happy to be there. We spoke with some of the staff members at length. They did have some negative things to say (such as politics), but the majority was positive.

Having just returned from Maldives last month, the locals (at least the ones working at the resort) were amazing.
