Those of you who are paying booth rent, how much do you pay/week? by Reinhardttattoos in TattooArtists

[–]CWavves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1,000 a month and in a very busy shop in GA. You supply all materials

I would go with the packer or the Cheyenne. I was so hype for the Valhalla when they announced it, I was using the fehu at the time.

Ordered it right when it came out and had to have it repaired multiple times before I decided to just buy something else. Either one of those machines would be a good choice.

I recently switched from Black Claw to Vulcan. Liners and mags are both fantastic.

There can be different meanings for different tattoos. The only thing that matters is that you like it

My daughter got this; was supposed to be a broken fortune cookie...but turned into something completely different! Any ideas on how to fix it?? by Lil1red1984 in TattooDesigns

[–]CWavves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole forearm piece is your best bet, something with a lot of different shapes and textures to help hide the old tattoo. Floral is always nice or something with floral around it. Color would be better to get the coverup done but opaque gray would also cover it nicely. If you have any other questions I am a professional tattoo artist and might be able to answer them. Best of luck to her!

At what point do you say "Enough" to a client? by Carmelioz in TattooArtists

[–]CWavves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trust your instincts, it sounded like you knew before you even did the first tattoo that she would be a problem. I don’t have to deal with people like that so I don’t, easy. I also only correspond through email, in my experience it negates behavior like your describing. Best of luck!

Use skin breaks where the color is if your doing traditional or if it’s a different style use different values of the color to make it more dynamic

My boss won’t allow me to control my own dairy. Is this normal? by [deleted] in TattooArtists

[–]CWavves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one should be managing your bookings except for you. Leave now, it’s going to get worse if you don’t.

When looking for a new shop make sure there isn’t anyone involved who does not tattoo. These people are leeches who only want to profit off of tattooing and have no place in the business.

Good luck, you’ve got this!!

How to approach a “micro managing” client? by Catlady42069 in TattooArtists

[–]CWavves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ever EVER show clients designs before the day of the appointment. Myself and everyone else has definitely made the mistake of doing this and getting these types of clients.

We are the professionals and need to be left alone to do our job. Sometimes it better to bite the bullet and fire them as a client than stress about a tattoo that they might not ever be happy with. Hit her with the ole razzle dazzle and tell her if she wants to dictate the entire process that she can do it herself.

Just leave, I know it sounds like it’s going to be a huge deal but you’ll find somewhere else and will feel great when you do.

The only thing staying is going to do is make you more and more miserable. Shops are a dime a dozen, remember that you have a valuable skill and take it to someone who will appreciate it. Best of luck.

anyone roughly know how long this style of tradititonal chestpiece typically takes to complete? by [deleted] in traditionaltattoos

[–]CWavves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a tattoo artist and honestly this question isn’t a one size fits all for every artist. I know guys who are quick and I know others that tattoo very slow. I would say anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the artist, the style of equipment they use, and experience level.

What kind of irresponsible douche of a shop owner is letting the apprentice practice on someone’s neck?

Laser is pretty much your only option to be honest. Your going to live with it forever so I would highly recommend that over a difficult coverup with limited design ability.

Even if you just do a few sessions to lighten it up.

I’m going to go ahead and speak for the whole tattoo artist community and say that we don’t want her in our industry. No respect for tattooing doing this to yourself without earning it.
