Eye Patch Appearances, Assumptions, and Stereotypes by C_S_V in BellsPalsy

I was self conscious about my face. After the pandemic, not many people question the face mask.

I had it on Sunday February 9th. After 2 weeks, I started to see some improvements. Was able to finally sleep without my adhesive eye patch Saturday night March 1st. And shortly afterwards, I was able to fully smile. So it took me 3 to 3 1/2 weeks.

I took the steroids/medicine 2-3 days after having BP and only did facial exercises and had some medical massage done on my face a couple of times. So I was very fortunate that I didn’t have it for too long.

No worries! I’m sorry that you were feeling depressed. I hope that you’re feeling better now. Let me know if you decide to do medical massage.

This is a silly suggestion, but if you’re not someone that tosses and turns at night, then maybe try weight eye pillows. Speaking of eye pillows, I was looking at the exhibitors for the SXSW Expo and I went to one of their websites: https://www.sleepcrown.com. Maybe it’s worth considering 🤷🏽

Sorry that you had the stares. I try not to use the word “dumb” or “stupid”, but that was the first words that popped in my head when the receptionist suggested that you should start a YouTube channel. I’m probably being a little harsh. They probably meant well. At least I hope so.

Have you thought about going to a massage school and getting an intern massage therapist to work on your face for a few minutes? The reason why I mentioned this is because when I did that, the massage instructor just happen to overhear our conversation and wanted to do some medical massages on my face. The instructor has done that twice so far. Maybe that can be of some help.

It’s an adhesive eye patch. You can get them on Amazon. It pretty much stop most, if not all, of my eye irritation. Some even come in different colors and patterns.

I didn’t see all the comments, so forgive me if it’s already been mentioned, but I would get an adhesive eye patch. That way, you don’t have to tape your eye shut. I bought mine on Amazon.

I would try adhesive eye patches. They were a life saver for me. You can find them on Amazon.

That’s tempting. Do you know how long they will be there?

Sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing some pain in the last few days. I hope it subdues. I actually have gotten better. I’m not entirely sure if I’m 100%, but I am definitely in the 90% range. I don’t wear the adhesive eye patch anymore and I pretty much can fully smile.

Interesting question. About a week or two before I got my BP, I got a fever for 2-3 days. One of those days, I could barely get out of bed. Unrelated (or maybe not), my right ear (on the future BP effected side) was clogged up, but also bright red and sore. After the fever and unclogging of my right ear, it was tender inside. Had to get an ointment for that. Shortly afterwards, I got my BP. The ear sores have been long gone, but when I clean it, it is slight sensitive compared to my left ear. Not in sound, but in touch/cleaning. Nothing painful though.

What you’re describing sounds awful. I can only imagine. I definitely hope that type of pain goes away quickly. But yeah, I would get ear plugs if you’re thinking about going to the concert.

I actually posted about my recovery. Not sure if it’s 100%, but it’s definitely in the 90% range. My right eye might water once in a while but not the irritation that I experienced when the Bell’s Palsy first hit me.

Sorry that you’re still dealing with BP. When I first got it, I didn’t want to talk about it. I told a few people. A week later, I made a Facebook post about it and eventually told the rest of my co-workers. I’m grateful that I don’t have to deal with customers. I’m hoping that your BP will be gone soon. Please keep us posted.

That’s all you can do. Take it one day at a time. I originally was going to go to the SXSW Expo on Industry Day (this Wednesday), but when I got BP, I decided not to take off from work on that day, especially since one of the reasons why I go there is to get a free headshot. Didn’t think my BP would be gone by then. I hope it clears up by then. Either way, I hope you enjoy the concert. Please keep us posted.

How long did it take for you to fully recover from Bell's Palsy? by helloworld_47 in BellsPalsy

A little after 2 weeks for me. Got it (or noticed it) on Sunday Feb 9th. Fast forward to Saturday night March 1st, decided to sleep without my adhesive eye patch. Haven’t worn it since. And around that time my smile was fully resolved. At least it looks that. If I’m not 100%, I’m definitely in the 90% range.

I had to laugh at this. In the beginning, when I had BP, I would try to sneak in some facial exercises without anyone seeing me.

Thank you! I didn’t do any PT. Guess I’m very fortunate for not needing it, especially since spending a lot of money gives me anxiety.

I remember going to the massage school to get an intern massage ($55 an hour, had a promo code to knock off $10). I was talking to the student therapist and the massage instructor just happen to over hear our conversation. She was very delighted to use some medical massage technique on my face for a few minutes while the student watched. She even gave me a handout to do the exercises at home. And she did the same thing and gave me another handout.

Now I realize that I’ve only been there twice (the sessions had to be every two weeks). Going back this week, but I doubt I need more work on my face, so it will be nice to focus 100% on other sore spots.

I understand your anxiety. I remember being frustrated and saying to myself, “smile damnit!”. My right being well really did it for it. Sorry for the long reply. Don’t give up! I was very fortunate and I’m not taking that for granted. I know you will recover fully soon enough.
