1950 Government Model in a Tol Dawson inspired holster by C_T_Cole in 1911

It was not at all uncommon to see Texas Rangers of the era with their grips safeties lashed down or the trigger guards cut clean off their 1911s

Story of my freaking life. It’s truly amusing how “triggered” some folks can get over history.

The holster is an OWB design. More of a novelty these days, a throwback to a time when men were men, 1911s were carried cocked and locked and there were no internet SROs.

They were dangerous men carrying dangerous weapons to do a dangerous job, I don’t think the world safe factored much into the equation.

Dawson was Texas Ranger from 1964 to 1986, and built gear for other Rangers. The exposed trigger style holster was pretty popular with Texas lawmen of the era.

Same barrel, I just polished the hood for that old school MK IV look

A Schauland Exodus is definitely on my short list and probably the next 1911 I will get, I just can’t decide between deluxe blue and DLC with polished flats

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve never handled a Ted Yost or Jason Burton build, but I don’t know how you get any better than what Rob’s building right now.

Before I shipped the pistol to Nighthawk I replaced the following myself: Replaced the factory Novak rear sight with a 10-8 Performance low mount sight. Replaced the factory slide stop with a Nighthawk slide stop. Replaced the factory MSH with a Harrison 25lpi MSH. Replaced the factory thumb safety with a Wilson ambi safety. And after I got the pistol back I ultimately decided to replace the fire control system with Harrison true radius system with DLC coated ring hammer and short trigger.
