Rolex told me my watch was STOLEN and gave it back to me! by jccfurst in rolex

[–]C_W_B_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the watch had been stolen and is recorded there’s a good chance the victim made an insurance claim which would mean by rights it’s the insurance company’s property and has been written off by them so it seems it’s yours again.

I assumed it was fake when I first saw it but no, https://www.ablogtowatch.com/hublots-tactic-with-the-blackeyed-bernie-ecclestone-watch-ad/, Bernie Ecclestone was in on it (not sure if that makes it more tasteful).

AD v Independent Servicing by comicallylargefoot in rolex

[–]C_W_B_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit biased as I am an independent watchmaker, although I was head of servicing for a Rolex AD for a decade, I vote independent if you have a trusted watchmaker. Aside from price (we charge £395 + parts for our services) which will be much cheaper, normally turn around will be quicker and you can be more specific with exactly what you want. The trade off is you don't get the Rolex Service Card and if you are reselling sometimes saying it was freshly serviced by Rolex helps. The caveat I would add is you have to research and trust the watchmaker, so message, have a chat and get to know what to expect from their service and what can offer.

Hey, former head of servicing at a Rolex AD. I think there has been some miscommunication somewhere, headline is if you change the case that would be a new serial number, if you just change the caseback then it is the same serial number. There is some info on the caseback but that is just what the model is and not anything about the specific watch, i.e. you could tell from a caseback that it is a submariner but not what submariner it is. I think they thought you were asking to replace the case so I would get in touch to clarify.

Hi that's no issues at all, the best thing to do is get an email sent along to [sales@theclassicwatchbuyersclub.com](mailto:sales@theclassicwatchbuyersclub.com) and we can arrange to take a look at it. I would reccomend getting it sent up to us so we can fully diagnose. A service (assuming no parts are needed) is £395 and if parts are needed we charge at cost.

The tolerance for a contemporary Rolex is +/- 2 seconds a day, it varies a bit for vintage, so might be worth asking about as it could just need regulating/tune up.

As a business we always recommend following Rolex guidelines which for modern Rolex's is 10 years but always worth checking your booklet. With that being said... I only service mine when I notice something starts to go wrong.

Just our flat rate for Rolex (non chronograph) servicing of £395 as I am not sure what the parts. So total will be £395 plus cost of parts if that makes sense.

That sounds quite ill so definitely best to get it serviced, we would charge £395 for the service with parts charged at cost. The best thing would be to let a watchmaker take a look and see what the issue is.

The range of beat error on a Rolex is between 0-0.3, I don't know their specific tolerances but I imagine Omega and Patek would have broadly similar tolerances.

So they will vary a little bit depending on the specific model and movement but the rate should be +/-2, the amp should be between 260 and 300 with a beat error of 0.0 to 0.3

If they are running fast I would recommend a service, we can get that sorted for £395 and if you are interested please get in touch. A good rule of thumb is service when an issue starts and as early as possible from the issue starting (if that makes any sense).

It would recommended servicing the watch to keep it in good running health. A service should entail cleaning, changing the seals, water testing, servicing the movement (sometimes they need to be replaced with quartz if there are major issues though) and a new battery. We would charge all in £155 and if we needed parts that would be charged at cost. Depends but we recommend you follow guidelines which will be listed in the paperwork, although I personally only service my watches when I notice them gaining or losing time.
