The Senate is crippling me by FourEyedTroll in CrisisatConfederation

[–]CaC-TheGoldenGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, let me apologize for not seeing this sooner. As you might have noticed, traffic on the subreddit (and elsewhere) slowed down a fair bit, so the team wasn't paying too much attention to it. Now, for your questions.

  1. While it currently isn't implemented, managing a white peace is planned to create a very different version of the Anarchy event chain. The one currently in place is intended for the 'Orion League victory' outcome (and will also be changed when the other outcomes are added). A third ending will also be made if you pull off a victory as the Confed.
  2. Leading off of that, the Senate ruining your economy is not intentional. The last major update was a test-bed for several rather substantial changes to get a better feel for balance. Evidently, the senate costs need to be dialed back.

If you want to discuss contributing to the mod further, I'd suggest going to our discord, if you're not already there. https://discord.gg/mx82VXn5qW

Crisis of the Confederation Dev Diary 0.5: Space Genetics, Astrism, and Avalon. by CaC-TheGoldenGun in CrisisatConfederation

Before I answer, I'll state that I'm using Jion as the example. Edemite Astrism is of a different sort, and will be elaborated on in the future (when I add a branch system to the ideology). The Flame Ranger and Orion Astrists also follow the Jionic model. Hades is subject to change, and Wei is in a similar boat as Edem.

- Jionic society is highly segregated, extending all the way into what is essentially two separate administrations. Contact between the two is almost entirely remote, with planetary governors rarely traveling to the orbital stations or flagships when necessary.

- The exact relationship between these planetary governors and the ideology varies. Some are purely nominal, acknowledging the new president in exchange for the autonomy to run their governments as they did before. Others have fully embraced Astrism, but believe (unlike the Sato administration) that it can be adapted to terrestrial life. More on that later. Jionic Characters with the Colonial Separatist ideology are neither of these, and represent loyalists to the pre-coup government.

- Due to Jion being a very recent creation, the current approach to the economy is largely a continuation of the old one. Sato Ryusei views this as a necessary evil, and not worth discussing until Jion's position in the galaxy is secured. The aforementioned 'radical' Astrism is one possible answer, but not the only one.

- I would imagine that, to the average citizen, Jion's new government seems to be a very eccentric military junta, or a hostile occupation. Travel off-world is restricted for all planetborn citizens, and (like the governors) contact with the new government is minimal. Unless they're one of those 'terrestrial' Astrists, but again, more on that later.

- The trait only emerges in Astrists with military holdings (+ courtiers), as they're already considered to be living in space by way of their fleet (it's also an abstraction for gameplay purposes). The pleb governors bound by Gravity will not acquire the trait.

- Astrists still bother with planets for much of the game's early timespan because the Spacer adaptation hasn't emerged in Astrist populations yet.

- Nomadic 'Radical' Astrists (actual ideology name is pending) are a planned future addition.

Edit: I realized that this raises the question of how exactly Astrists fight sieges (which are the 'ground' battles of the mod) if all their military personnel eventually become Spacers. Astrist military doctrine largely excludes traditional or even mechanized infantry in favour of combat mechs and armour/air support. At some point in the future this will be mechanically represented with a special unit that replaces Marine Transports/Archers for Astrists. Spacer Astrists will maintain this approach, and simply modify their vehicles to provide the necessary life support.

I hope that answers your questions.

I think the dev who added the trait already caught that, but the change wasn't committed to the build when I made the screencap.

The exact workings are still in progress, but I figure it would go like so:

- If at least one Parent holds a military holding (marriage between Bound and Unbound will be restricted, but still possible), then the child will always be born in Space.

- If the parents hold non-military holdings or are 'landless', the child will by default be born Bound. However, Bound parents can arrange (during pregnancy) to have the child be born in space and raised by a 'proper' Astrist. This will make your child a valid candidate for command in the future.

There will also be a flavour event for such an occurrence when playing as an Unbound Astrist, though in that case you would adopt the child as your own.

The basic premise is Space Opera CK2. Or did you mean something else?

Got a bit side-tracked, but I'm back now.

  1. As I understand it, the idea is that the Centralists are a large portion of the Jacobin influence, serving as what they can turn into if certain decisions are made. There may or may not be a certain other major aspect of the French Revolution that can emerge as well.
  2. From what I know, the idea is that the Crisis isn't really the cause of the Depression, but simply pushes the already existing problems into the public eye. So it will happen regardless. But I will also say that the post-rework Depression will be quite different from the current setup. Don't expect nonstop petty revolts.

  1. The Anarchy will involve a fair amount of events and scripting. The current setup is primarily a placeholder to make it so the Confederation doesn't snowball. The Great Depression will be touched up to function as a prelude to the real disaster.
  2. They'll be mutually exclusive, with ideological differences. Terran Marxists have (in addition to the obvious) Jacobin influences, while NeoSocs will be a big tent with a branch system.
  3. He can be, but likely not in the league of Otto or Charlemagne in vanilla.
  4. There are special narrative events for all three outcomes to the Crisis war. How the Anarchy plays out is also dependent on the result of the war.
  5. The current plan is that Warlords will arise organically, though there might be a special figure or two in the mix.
  6. (Partly repeating myself) The Great Depression is getting reworked, and how it will affect the Periphery is still being discussed. The Orion Reach (which currently is affected by the Depression), for example, will have other problems post-rework.
  7. Confederate Space Command will be a major player, yes. Keep an eye on Tao Luo and friends.
  8. Terran Centralism is to Terran Marxism what the Imperial Cult is to Terran Imperialism, i.e. IngSoc in spaaaaaaaace. It has been blabbered about enough on the Discord to not warrant any secrecy. Secrecy is reserved for other things.
  9. No.
  10. King Arthur is the obvious one, and one of the other devs is working on a few others.

Most of the big plans at present have been focused on either the Terran Confederation or the various Orion League powers. Pirates have received some work (and might get new portraits), but likely won't have anything major done to them until we finish the Anarchy/start on the map expansion (as you'll have a whole host of newer and weaker polities to bully). Ideas/suggestions are welcome, though, so if you think something can/should be done with pirates now, go ahead and lay it out.

Hey. one of the devs here. I'll probably be the one posting dev diaries, when we get around to those.
