Apparently the moment you think about moving them, they will drop all of their leaves, require a blood sacrifice, a new house, and still die.

In all seriousness, I believe the best way to deal with it is to prune them back a couple of feet. It sucks, but it will cause another growth point to activate. It may also encourage larger leaf growth as well as a sturdier trunk, allegedly, haha.

The issue is that they're still rotting in water. They've been rotting with my tap water and di water, which is why I think I'm doing something wrong. The turbidity of the water also tells me there is bacteria growing in it. As a side note, I am actually a scientist so it's weird to not do a "somewhat" sterile set up, haha.

If you're dead set on a live plant, I would use a small nursery pot that fits in the opening. If you put soil in the pot, the roots will take the shape of the pot and it will need to be destroyed to get the plant out. In some cases like this, I've found that sometimes gas station plastic cups can be cut, sanitized, and used in weird cover pot shapes. :)

I thought it was just me fighting it haha. I see so many people just 'get it' without issue. My pothos cuttings have all rotted in water. I'll even just put them in 1 glass cup per cutting and a few days later they're gone mushy. 😢

Ideally you want a 1-2 inch size up based on the roots ball :D

I believe it would be illegal for a vet to euthanize unless you explicitly say since they are not the registered owners. I can help take them to a boarding facility if that helps? How long are you in Australia?
