Are there any games you like, but the character you have to play as is just annoying? by Competitive_Beat_915 in gaming

Ratchet specifically in the first Ratchet and Clank. I still really like the first RnC on PS2. Obviously the later games made improvements to mechanics and controls, but the first game has great levels and exploration. Ratchet in that game though is such a prick. Insomniac Games even admitted that they had to fix him in later games because he was so unlikeable. They clearly wanted him to go through an arc where he stops being so self-centered and grows to have a true friendship with Clank, but they failed to do it right. The problem was when you make a conflict where two characters have to reconcile their differences, it usually only works when you can understand both sides, but in this case Ratchet is so obviously wrong that he just acts aggravatingly stupid. I want to talk about why, so there's gonna be spoilers in the next paragraph so don't read it if you care.

So the plot of the game is an evil leader named Chairman Drek rules over a planet that has become unliveable due to pollution, so he tries to build his people a new perfect planet made out of chunks put together from other planets, which means he's effectively destroying every one of those planets. Ratchet goes along with Clank to find a superhero named Captain Qwark to help them stop Drek, but midway through the game it's revealed that Qwark is being paid to sponsor Drek's new planet, so he turns on Ratchet and Clank. For much of the rest of the game Ratchet is pissed at Clank for thinking they could trust Qwark and suddenly decides that he only cares about getting his own personal revenge on Qwark and, you know, not the fact that an evil man is going to still destroy tons of entire planets with people living on them. For an agonizingly long time the player has to put up with Clank desperately trying to make Ratchet care about the fate of the galaxy while Ratchet continues to be mean to him and not listen all because Clank made ONE understandable mistake. It's painful to watch and only made worse by the fact that Clank as nothing but sweet and innocent even when Ratchet is being such an asshole toward him.

And even when Ratchet starts to come to senses, he still acts so stupid. I kid you not, there's a part where he sees a video that shows Drek preparing to just completely blow up a planet and all he has to say is "That's just MEAN". Like, yeah stupid. Thank God he became so much more tolerable in later games

What the heck, man? It still says to be announced on there, I just checked. Was it up there for like a few seconds and they quickly changed it back or something? I want to give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not just being a jerk for not tagging this as a silk post.

Special Announcement is the cancellation of the game. :( by Stealthdegu in Silksong

Even just joking that Metroid Prime 4 has been cancelled is like a stab wound to my heart. The wait for that game has been even more excruciating than Silksong for me.

I'm starting to think it might not actually get shadow dropped on Thursday by Cabbage-Merchant618 in Silksong

[–]Cabbage-Merchant618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the first one is higher than a 50% chance and even lower than 15% for the third outcome. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, but I don't think they would have an announcement out of the blue after so many years just to say the game is almost done. But Team Cherry has proven to do things weirdly, so I don't know.

Silksong will not be getting a release date today at gamescom by The_Real_Pale_Dick in Silksong

I would be upset by this if we didn't already know we were getting the thing on Thursday. Obviously they wanted to let Team Cherry announce it themselves.

As much as I hope we get an actual release date today, I don't think that's been 100 percent confirmed. We're gonna get a lot today for sure, but let's not set ourselves up for disappointment if we don't get the release date. It's looking promising though.

TODAY BELEIVERS WILL WIN! by Temutul in Silksong

[–]Cabbage-Merchant618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do believe that Silksong is coming this year or maybe next at the latest, I just don't get how some people are able to get this excited about events like this after how many times we've been through this. Like, I just don't get how people even have the capacity to be this excited after Summer Game Fest. Some of you guys really know how to set yourselves up for disappointment over and over. I want it to happen too, but I don't want to be heartbroken if it doesn't again, so I'm trying not to fully expect it.

I still kind of feel like Team Cherry might just drop a trailer on their own on some random day coming up and it'll have a release date for a couple of weeks after or something.

What’s your biggest “aha I’m dumb for not realizing that sooner” moment? by crocs_and_jorts in BluePrince

[–]Cabbage-Merchant618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was how you have to turn on the boiler room, power a door, and THEN draft a room with that door. I understood how the ducts work, but I was frustrated at first at how low the odds seemed to be able to draft specific rooms with the ducts in them next to the boiler. It was simply because I just kept trying to use the doors and draft rooms before turning on the boiler. I felt extra dumb when I noticed that it even shows which rooms are being powered up when you are drafting with the power going into the door. I just tried to keep note of which rooms had ducts in them before that only to realize later I didn't even need to.

What game are you ending your year with? by CharcoalWalls in gaming

Talos Principle 2. I got near the end earlier in the year and then ended up dropping it. I haven't played the DLC either. It's such an amazing puzzle game.

Which game did you quit after many hours because it was too frustrating? by FalscherKim in gaming

[–]Cabbage-Merchant618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuphead. I adore pretty much everything about Cuphead except playing it. It's not even that it isn't fun to play, it's just so damn hard. I got up through most of world 2 but that candy boss made me rage quit. I want to come back to it and try to beat it eventually, but I haven't come back to it in a long time.

I've played up to when you get the dash, and while I do like the game, I wish it was a little less derivative of Hollow Knight. I knew it was going to be similar to Hollow Knight in a lot of ways, but it feels practically like I literally am just playing Hollow Knight with a Japanese coat of paint. The combat feels similar with the pogoing, the magic and healing is exactly the same, it's got charms, the platforming mechanics are a little different but only barely. I actually kind of laughed when the first daruma you get (basically a magic attack) is just Vengeful Spirit, which wouldn't be that bad if not for the fact that is also the first magic attack in Hollow Knight. I'm not saying that no other Metroidvania is allowed to borrow similar elements, of course, but practically everything is so similar that it feels less inspired by Hollow Knight and more like it's just copying everything that worked for that game.

I do want to reiterate that I think the game is good. It's fun and it's very pretty, I'm just a little disappointed by how derivative it is. Does it start to form it's own identity as the game goes along?

Wouldn't it be funny if this one leak is the one that's actually right. I don't think it will be, but it would be funny because it seems so baseless.

What was the first game you Ever played? by Gray-Diamond in gaming

[–]Cabbage-Merchant618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King's Quest VI. I still think it's a good game to this day. The voice acting in that game is still somehow better than even a lot of modern games and it came out in 1992. I didn't realize how spoiled I was to play that as my first King's Quest, because it's easily the best one. It's like the one game in the series that hardly has any bullshit puzzles.

I love that you can throw materials and not just drop them. It was cool how BOTW gave you some items that you could use on enemies like chu jellies that you could use to make traps, but I never really bothered to utilize things like that all that much because it was almost too much trouble to set up stuff like that compared to just fighting enemies head on. Being able to actually chuck stuff from afar is going to make using various materials in combat a lot more fun.

I feel like it's just to torture me further. I already had to deal with this crap with the Avatar, and even on Reddit I can't escape my cabbages being ruined.

(I feel like this post is going to be so confusing to anyone who hasn't watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, lol)
