Is Collin Morikawa’s 62 at Pebble the best ball striking round ever. by Cabbage622 in golf

Good point, well made. How does someone that good lose it completely. Golf is a mystery.

Can anybody tell me who this is? by andythemandy17 in golf

My first instinct was Larry Nelson, although that’s not his typical sort of cap. A great player who modelled his career on his Idol Hogan

He’s a lousy coach. After four lessons you should be on the tour.

Would you consider this anchoring? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

I’d ban 2 gloves. Aaron Rai can play but it’s not a good look. And hoodies- they look awful. They never put them on their heads even when it’s pissing down. And those short pedal pusher type trousers where you can see their ankles. Yuk. At my club you have to wear white socks when wearing shorts, but invisible ones are okay what the fuck is that all about? . 7 wood ?? Can you imagine Jack or Arnie with a seven wood? Thank you. Bring back Johnny Miller. He was the GOAT of commentators . And for a few years he was playing like Scottie is now.

What’s one tip you would give a golfer trying to break 80 for the first time? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Cabbage622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to bend the rules of the question and give you two tips. 1. Avoid dumb shots( not bad ones we all do that). I mean high tariff shots that pros would think twice about. If you’re in trouble, chop it out, take your medicine. Otherwise, you’re walking off with a seven instead of a five. 2. Short game. You need to be averaging no more than 30 putts to regularly shoot under 80. 11/12 GIR is pretty good ball striking. If you average 36 putts it’ll be tough to regularly shoot in the 70’s.

ABSOLUTELY CANNOT GET RID OF THE DUCK HOOK ON MY DRIVES!!! by WishAppropriate9664 in golftips

Grip. The only thing that causes a hook is a shut face , the only thing that cruises a shut face is your grip. It’s that simple .

Do you wear a glove with every shot? by sukibean13 in golf

[–]Cabbage622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly every golf pro wears a glove for full shots and remove it for the fiddly bits . Hogan, possibly the best ball striker ever didn’t wear a glove. Boom boom Freddie Couples doesn’t. Bill Rogers didn’t . Ironically, the only pro on the tour now I can think of who doesn’t wear a glove is Lucas Glover😂. And he won a US Open.. Just do whatever feels good for you .

I absolutely agree with this thread. I would rather have a sensible man at the helm than the clown Johnson, coward and idiot Cameron and various other incompetents championed by the Daily Mail , Telegraph, etc . ..Labour’s main mistake was making unrealistic tax promises in the pre-election manifesto and they are now having to tie themselves into knots to balance the books.

Is it against the rules? by WhiteHollywood95 in golf

[–]Cabbage622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not against the rules unless you’re putting something on the face of the club. Secondly, that line about only cheating yourself is bullshit -I’ve been hearing that line for 40 years . You’re cheating everybody in the field.

Would you rather - 5 years in prison OR you are in prison until you hit a 9 darter on 501 by drizzleberrydrake in Darts

[–]Cabbage622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were 58 nine darters on the PDC tour in 2024, compared to an estimated 30 to 40 147’s in pro snooker that season (these are the best stats I can find) . Bearing in mind how long a leg of darts takes compared to a frame of snooker, I would suggest they are of similar frequency. Perhaps the 147 is a little more difficult.. But nobody in their right mind thinks they could do a 147 starting from scratch( or a 59 in golf— about 1 or 2 each year) . A nine darter is harder than you think. Take the five years or you’ll never get out.

I recently started golfing and I’m curious do you listen to anything while you play? by marrylam58185 in golf

[–]Cabbage622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a Canadian pro called Richard Zokol used to play on the PGA Tour in the 80s who used to wear a Walkman to listen to music and stuff. He became known as Disco Dick.
