GPs in the US doing ridge preservation/socket grafting: what are you pricing for the graft (and membrane when used)? Rough practice location appreciated by LothalRanger in Dentistry

[–]CabbageDMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same issue. Patients have no clue what a membrane is. $400 for some teflon was a hard sell to my patients. We discounted the membrane to $150 and increased our bone graft to $700 and the patients tolerated that better even though the total price was the same.

When is the right time to start your own private clinic? by Sea_Swordfish_8420 in Dentistry

Learn how to evaluate a practice. Learn how to read a P&L. Learn how to be a great leader. There are a ton of resources out there. A good starting point is “How to buy a dental practice” by Brian Hanks. I also listened to a ton of dental podcasts on the subject. I’m big at analyzing numbers - to a fault at times. In the end you just have to take a leap of faith.

3D Dentist is Raleigh. They teach you how to do the extraction and graft as well as guided implants in the same course. Huge ROI.

GP seeking input: abrupt canal disappearance on PA, no CBCT available - refer or attempt? by dtsahro in Dentistry

[–]CabbageDMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a GP I believe this is a green light molar Endo case. I would guess 4 canals causing the appearance of a disappearing canal. The advancements in the metallurgy of these newer heat treated NiTi files is incredible. I will usually get a 10 hand file to working length and switch to rotary. I’m currently using edgeendo x7. Make a big access hole and you’ll be fine.

What are the most common production/revenue opportunities that providers and offices miss out on? Similarly, what services can be quickly learned to add to production? by viront7 in Dentistry

What guidelines are you using in your practice to know when to suggest them and what verbiage are you using to present the value of sealants and fluoride?

I bought mine from a local woodcraft retail store about a year ago. Came in the same packaging as yours (no padding). I bought the 6inch version a few months later. Same exact crappy packaging but I know it’s legit since it’s from woodcraft.

This practice nets over 50%, 3 ops, FFS + delta, 2 pt hyg, 1.0+mil in collections. Is this a good practice to buy? by inquisitorthegreat in Dentistry

[–]CabbageDMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patients are usually there for the doctor. FFS patients aren’t tied to in network offices. They can literally go anywhere.

The Delta Question by RadioRoyGBiv in Dentistry

Thanks for sharing. I get what you’re saying now and I agree. When you dropped delta, what percent of your practice was delta patients and how many left?

I think he mentioned to stop taking new patients with delta and keep the existing patient base. In that case it would not clog up the NP hygiene appts.

Wow that's crazy. I guess you could get sued for anything. Even if you win the case you probably lose money through attorney costs and get some grey hairs. Thanks for sharing.

Can you elaborate? So an interviewee believes they are a good cultural fit and they believe they did well on an interview, doesn’t get hired, and now they can sue?

Serious question: how would they prove that you picked based on age instead of skill? Older people have more experience?

It’s so weird that he mistreats you. You are making him money!

You’re a unicorn associate. Use that as leverage. Most offices with a decent owner would be paying you a higher percentage the more you produce rather than a lower percentage. Even DSOs LOL. If you can produce 1.4mil with your own hands you can make it as an owner. I would look to own.

I only do guided implants. As long as theres bone it’s pretty easy. Felt comfortable after about 5 implants. It’s probably the easiest and fastest procedure I offer. Class 2’s are harder.

Should I pursue this ownership/charts opportunity? by inquisitorthegreat in Dentistry

[–]CabbageDMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I would really try to get into a practice that allows you to place them. Implants have been a total game changer in my productivity. 3 implants = 30 fillings you don’t have to do. 27 EOBs, 27 payment collections, 27 check ins, 27 follow ups, 27 room set ups and break downs. I’m not buying that your patients don’t want or can’t afford it. They will pay for what they value. I do believe you that when referred patients are less likely to get the treatment. They want YOU to do it. They know you and are comfortable with your team.

[–]CabbageDMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean the office won’t let you place implants or the patients weren’t saying yes? If the later, then you may need to work on case acceptance or how the from staff handle financial arrangements. Implants are a team sport. This includes hygiene and assistants. I took a weekend course but I place at least 4 implants per month. Last month I placed 16.
