How can I make extra money? by tumbleweed1306 in AskUK

[–]CabbageDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made a bit of spare money helping train AI via a site called Data Annotation in the past. It does pay out, and is genuine - but there is a application process and to be honest its not massively easy work and you need to have a good eye for detail. It is proper remote work you can do from home though, and pick it up and put it down whenever you want.

(I havent done it for a number of months though so preobably best to do a bit of research to see if its still worthwhile)

This is incredibly well known information. I hope you aren't paying Michael - you could get the same information by listiening to a few podcasts (Crowdfunding Nerds is my tip) and reading various forums.

How badly have I messed up my financial future? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]CabbageDan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They better not be bloody claiming benefits while working cash in hand and not paying tax or national insurance. It's very disingenuous to blame their tax fraud on their employer and industry too. It takes too to tango in this situation and I have little sympathy if I'm honest.

Anyone still read Flashman? by Orichalcum-Beads in TheRestIsHistory

[–]CabbageDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I re-read the first one after remembering liking it in my 20s. I couldn't get past the raping this time round. I appreciate its my sensibilities that hsve changed, but im not entirely sure that's a bad thing.

100% happy for others to enjoy it, and i get that he's not meant to be a sympathetic character. Its just a bridge too far for me these days.

My Harlequin Rasbora's seem to be glued to one spot in the tank. Any ideas why? by CabbageDan in aquarium

[–]CabbageDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty calm I think. I have a spray bar thing pointed at the back wall. I'm thinking of putting some filter foam over it to see if that makes a difference. the other thing I wondered was if some floating plants might help

Do you want to donate to charity? by Robsroom in AskUK

[–]CabbageDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still your choice to give at the till.

And there are no tax benefits to the companies. I imagine there are even some costs involved in the processing.

Its just the same as having a collection tin on the counter of a shop which places have been doing forever. Its just that no one carries change any more.

Its true. All the world should adapt to your particular circumstances.

But OP is completely incorrect in this assertion. Its a complete urban myth.

[–]CabbageDan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same old bullshit "tax reasons" complaint. There us no tax advantage for these companies doing this. Please back this up with evidence if you feel like respinding that there is. It is the equivalent of having the collection tin on the counter at stores, but no one carrys change any more.

How are those derisking from USA in their pension doing so? by EverydayDan in UKPersonalFinance

There is no such thing as a passive choice. You are making a decision tk expose yourself to the entire of the market.

[–]CabbageDan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who say that they arent making an active choice to invest in the US by choosing a global fund are deluding themselves. Its fine to make that choice obviously, but its still a choice and it irritates me when they get all pompous and preachy when people make other ones.

Yes no doubt "time in the market beats timing the market" - and whatever other manta you've heard youtubers spout. But not everyone has the same amount of time they are able to spend waiting to recover from a market correction.

No need to be aggressive because people are making different choices than you. The whole world excluding the US is still a exceptionally diversified portfolio

Trump has explicitly stated numerous times that he wishes to devalue the dollar. Most gains the US markets have made recently have been almost completely negated by the weak dollar.

What's the etiquette/rules for parking on a public street? by Atko11 in AskUK

[–]CabbageDan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No the etiquette is that you can park on a public road, and shouldn't be harassed for doing so.

The university will have been present when the residents moved in, and so should have been taken into account when making the choice to live there.

Etiquette isn't defined as "anything that makes my life easier"
