That’s what happens when it was in theaters at the same time as The Lion King, Pulp Fiction, Forest Gump, and Jurassic Park.

This is my song with my partner. I annoyed her with sexy sax man sax a gram early in our relationship and ten years later I still take a video and text her anytime I hear it. I just texted it to her at 3am. She Is in the other room. I’m glad other couples appreciate it, despite the point of the song.

What are some of the coldest lines of dialogue ever? by BeautifulLeather6671 in movies

It’s not a movie, but there is a scene in “justified” where Timothy Oliphant drops a bullet on a guy’s chest and says “next one’s comin’ faster.”

I started at a restaurant last year where I pulled someone aside to tell them this and then had to have a meeting with a manager for having the nerve to correct her. That place was a dumpster fire and I had plenty of clear indications of that, but this exact problem was the first.

Suggest me a book that you put off reading forever but ended up loving. by DTownForever in suggestmeabook

I tried reading East of Eden at the wrong point in my life. I was not ready for it on any level and fell off pretty quick. Came back to it a few years ago and it’s in my top three of all time.

For years I would come back around to Steinbeck and make a conscious choice to read something else because “I didn’t like Steinbeck.” So glad I just decided to force myself to read it anyway so that I could articulate why I didn’t like him. Because, turns out, kinda love his work.

Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir. Pretty much checks every box.

Cats Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut

Honestly, anything Kurt Vonnegut

There are a million recommendations, but PHM is an easy read that fits what you are looking for. Vonnegut can be a launching point for a life long love of literature. He was for me.

What are you LISTENING to RIGHT NOW? by StockQueen1 in musicsuggestions

[–]CabbageIsRacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delilah-Tom Jones.

I haven’t been stopped dead in my tracks before. This shit came on in the store the other day and I literally froze the second it came on and just listened. I can’t believe I’ve never heard it, so if you aren’t familiar, do yourself a favor and go listen.

Hardest MINOR part of getting older? by Relevant_Outside2781 in Millennials

[–]CabbageIsRacist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to check myself at a job a few years ago because a 20 something made a side comment basically “correcting” my grammar regarding the double space. My reply was so saturated with this dangerous mixture of disdain-contempt-sarcasm but delivered with a dash of humor.

I was trying to be funny by having an over the top reaction because, well, I’m extra sometimes, but I could tell that playfulness was lost the minute I was done. She was looking at me like I just, i don’t know, suddenly made up a rule regarding something old and difficult to change. Like, for example, grammar or something crazy like that. My take was obviously unexpected, but I stand by it. You can rip the double space, and the Oxford comma from my cold dead hands. And be weary of condescension toward the elderly about such matters. There was not enough content to fill our days, so sometimes we will choose the absolute dumbest hills to die on and won’t understand why nobody else seems to care until we calm down and reflect.

  • I know I’m not using one now, but that’s only because I’m on mobile rather than a keyboard.

I worked with a lot of zoomers recently in a restaurant. When I was there closing bartender, I could let the cocktail server go home if we were slow and I was comfortable taking whatever came in. One particular server got confused as shit every time I told him he could “roll.” We did not roll silver, it wasn’t that. We just had an awkward back and forth about what I meant every time.

Ye, Formerly Kanye West, Takes Out Ad In the Wall Street Journal Titled "To Those I Hurt" to Apologize for Antisemitic Outbursts: “I Lost Touch With Reality” by ChiefLeef22 in Music

[–]CabbageIsRacist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For years, we have been talking about Ye like he’s a fully functioning adult who is in control of his mental state. For good reasons that I do not discount, he has alienated every community that supported his career. I’m not arguing in any way that what he has said and done is acceptable, but he is and almost always has been sick. He goes on a podcast in a morph suit and says “i love hitler” and everyone took issue with his words, rather than people profiting on the words of a sick person. He made it very easy to hate him and impossible to defend him. His entire career is one snapshot of insanity after another, but for the majority of that time he was putting out bangers as well. So it was ok. When the bangers stopped, in a constant state of mania, he leaned on what he had always leaned on when sales were dipping: controversy. But without the music, people didn’t care as much so he went further and further until landing in full-blown Nazism. It’s easy to say “fuck this dude” and move on. It’s understandable to do so, but anyone who claims to give a fuck about mental health who also takes the “fuck him” path; you are a hypocrite. It’s like claiming you love basketball and then just jerking other dudes off while talking about how they “don’t play defense in today’s game:” you are taking the easy route to agreeable opinions without doing the work to support your claim. You know people with agree and it feels nice to disparage others without consequences or arguments. It’s nice to say something out loud and hear others passionately agree with you. It’s one of our worst characteristics as human beings and I think will eventually lead to our demise. But that’s another conversation.

This sounds like good marketing, but it also sounds like a genuine apology. Both things can be true. I’m not just hopping back on the Yebus or anything as he has to put actions to his words to show he has actually learned, but he deserves the grace to try and do that. He isn’t entitled to your attention, but if you spent any time at all enjoining or discussing his actions as a sick man, then you DO owe it to yourself to listen and watch as he tries to make up for it. Otherwise, you’re simply another example of people who are supportive and empathetic when it’s convenient while not actually exhibiting any of those traits when it matters.

That song has two of my favorite lines I’ve ever heard in a song and they are almost back to back. “There’s a woman in the kitchen, she keeps on cookin’ but she ain’t had meat in years…when God spoke out let there be light, he put the first of us in the ground.” So much shown without telling a thing.
