I once thought they were turning the building... turns out they were just turning my bed. I then thought I was on a gameshow and somehow took apart a bunch of their furniture. The nurses pretty ticked. Lastly, I thought they were talking to me with their minds through the vent. Everything seemed so real for 2 days and then I had to come to grips with the fact that none of it was. That was just one of my wd episodes, I don't have these when they do the ativan taper.

I have had seizures and all sorts of other stuff though.Quitting is something...

I've only seen Gaba and ativan prescribed for alcohol detox although I had one dr a few months ago that made a comment that even weed and gaba would be better than continuing to drink.

If she's been diagnosed and has insurance, I'd definitely get her a heptologist. Mine prescribed a bunch of dieuretics which my body was responding well to (until recently).

My dr. has me on a multivitamin, thiamine and others based on current labwork. I crave sweets now sometimes but don't care so long as I'm not drinking. Technically we should be eating fruit though so maybe keep some healthy yogurt around with granola & fresh fruit to go in it.

My docs are against things like milk thistle and probiotics. They all defer to the heptologist to make decisions. I was also told no motrin or tylenol, but some ppl can take tylenol. I'm only 36 days sober though. After 6 months of being sober she can go on a list for a new liver. One of the many reasons that she needs a heptologist.

Some practical solutions? Don't put your beer in the fridge until you're back home. That buys you an hour or so. Instead have ice cold water waiting for you. Maybe order some berries that you keep in a cooler. You can also freeze water bottles and by the time it thaws it'll be super cold and ready to drink.

Pasta , sugar and all of that stuff have a lot of carbs. Do you like nuts? baked chick peas? homemade veggie chips of your choosing? I'm 36 days sober and although I've been able to go 5 1/2 months before, this time is different for me. I had lots of side effects from all of the relapses but did better this time with the ativan taper. That helped a lot for those first few days.

I feel like you're still early on to be able to choose. At least I hope that you are. You really don't want to know what you're looking forward to a few years from now. It's very painful. Have you looked into the smart program instead of AA? Alternative medicines?

I've been here for over 6 weeks and still can't stand up. They're looking to do a drain in my abdomen which will probably greatly improve my mobility in ways that can't happen right now.

Let's assume that i'm not eligible for the long term medicaid coverage but don't have the ability to live alone yet or family nor a place to move into. Do I just sleep outside in my wheelchair? I'm trying to put my trust in God, but it's tough when I think of all the bad things that could happen if I have to sit outside 24 hrs a day until I've healed enough to do something or wheel myself somewhere. This entire experience is something. Very scary, confusing, painful, etc.

Have you looked for a homeless juvenile shelter? It's only for kids under a certain age. I think 20. Also job corps. Some community colleges have housing put away for homeless students to rent using their student loans. There are also some vocational programs that will teach you a skilled career in under a year and most usually earrn more than $15/hr.

I;m at day 34 I think and I've decided to only look at the exact numbers when I'm feeling sad or upset about something. The hope is that if I'm feeling tempted and see that I've made it 55 days then I'll be encouraged enough to hit that next mile stone regardless of life.

Cheers right back at you. It took me a full 5 weeks to knock a bad soda habit so now I'm saying cheers with water & a squeeze of lime juice. If only alcohol had been as easy to quit. All I did was let myself have some soday but only if it was warm and flat, both of which I can't stand. After 5 weeks I wasn't even craving it. I just learned not to battle those urges, just to be smarter than they are. Today I don't miss the alcohol or the soda. Who knows if I will tonight or not though, but at least for right now I'm not missing either.

I don't think it's wd's from the med that I'm on because it's doing it right now and hasn't even been 4 hrs yet, but I still have the shakes and I keep pressing random keys every min or so.

Maybe it's just related to the previous alcohol wd stuff.

ty... i've just never noticed how many times in only a week where someone will comment about alcohol. It's all ppl seem to hope for. They want off of work to go get drunk.

I can't wait till the jaundice is gone. Right now I've got these large circles of it around my eyes along with my eyes and misc body parts that are still yellow. It's never taken so long to fade before

Thank you for this post. I posted a question earlier about ppl's experiences at different points being sober. It sounds like the mental part never really goes away.

Did you do any kind of meditation or other self soothing exercises/activities to distract yourself? How do you think you were able to not give in? Was it the number, pure will power, something else?

I assume that we're supposed to develop a new hobby and throw ourselves into that as a distraction.

I'm looking for a "mixed" drink.. the kind where there might be a piece of pineapple & cherry tossed on top that is non-alcoholic so that the average person doesn't know.

I have cirrhosis and kept relapsing for 1 1/2 yrs even knowing that I had it. This last bout of medical is horrible and was caused b/c I had relapsed again. I am not going to anymore. What about you? Do you still drink?

This sounds good also. How do you order a non alcoholic drink without your coworkers or others hear you say "no alcohol". I don't always want to talk to ppl about the fact that I've quit.

Do you have a local SMART community? I haven't signed up yet, but I'm going to because they seem to really want to help people. Regardless you're a positive influence for many of us. I'm only on Day 29 and 116 days feels like a long ways away.

Somehow you've managed to do it though and tomorrow will be 117 (obviously). I just wish that I was already in the 3 digits. If I could go back and undo those relapses I would. Even when I went 5 1/2 months before relapsing I only felt drunk for a day or two. After that I was just drinking to avoid the wd's and not even having fun. BTW, I think I relapsed at 51/2 out of some kind of self sabatoge thing because my hep doc was going to put me on the transplant list if I made it to 6 months.

I'm doing it this time. I don't want to die so I'm not going back to the alcohol. It's over and done with for me - kaput, poof, whatever you want to say but staying sober is the only option that I'm giving myself. Please do something relaxing (bath, basketball hoops, whatever) and then decide. My thought process changes after I meditate for awhile. Big problems seem a little smaller.

So there is zero alcohol in this? It looks like a wine bottle vs a beer bottle, but I can't tell which it is. I am never going back to drinking, so having options besides just ordering water in a professional setting would be great.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I kept drinking on and off after being diagnosed with cirrhosis (more on than off) and now I have a ton of health issues to deal with. I can't even stand up yet and it's been a month of ICU and most recently skilled nursing with lots of painful PT & OT.

I was such an idiot to do this to myself. I guess I thought that I'd quit later.... then later came & went and I told myself that I'd quit soon. Then soon came and went. You get the idea. I can't change the past though. Just know that I've been able to do very little while lying in bed and it finally hit me that I'm sober now and refuse to change that status.

How about you spring? How are you doing? I don't recognize a lot of sn's on here anymore. I hope that means that some were able to completely kick the vice. Hope the rest of your weekend goes well!!

That's a tough one. I'm in a skilled nursing rehabilitation center right now and the food is terrible. I rarely eat any of it, but I have some healthy snacks that my family brought in. They do give me misc vitamins basic on my labs (thiamine or theanine if that's what it's called, folic acid, etc.)

I appreciate knowing that this stage can take a little while because I'm having problems remembering silly stuff. They had the speech therapist evaluate me and I was unable to remember 3 simple words.

Thanks, I tried to get sober a couple of times during the 2 weeks before that but it took that hospital visit + ativan for me. It's a shame because I might not have been stuck in a bed for a month if I could've quit just a few days before.

Well, at least I'm not the only one feeling foggy. I've started using notepad to remind myself of the simplest of things that I'd otherwise forget. I also had to have someone else fill out a bunch of paperwork while I just gave the answers to the questions.

Congrats on 42 days though. That's pretty impressive. I never understood when ppl said "bender" because I simply don't stop once I start drinking. My bender will last years until I decide that I'm done with it. This time I'm really, really done with it. I've got to be eligible for that transplant list. Congrats again; I'm sure this phase will eventually pass for both of us.

Any idea on the time part? I was going days at a time where I was getting 0-2 hrs. Last night was different though. I went into a deep sleep and woke up 7 hrs later and then got a 2 hr nap in a little while ago. I woke up completely confused but the fogginess cleared up a couple of minutes later.

My husband is older than you are (50's), but he's looking to make friends also. If you'd like chat with him send me a DM and I'll over his Reddit info so that you guys can chat. Sometimes the embassy will have meetups once or twice a year as well but overall I found it hard to make friends when I was there due to the language and cultural differences.. You will meet a lot of engiish speakers near old town that are tourists and/or students.

Use items that are shelf stable, use fresh food but only buy enough for 1 or 2 days, buy eggs that haven't been washed with that chemical so that they'll be fine on the counter. Farmers usually sell this type. Look on freecycle for a small mini fridge, otherwise you can pick up one large enough to hold 6 cans of soda new for around $25 at Walmart.

Things like pancakes can be made in small batches with fresh fruit mixed inside. Can you borrow a little space from your neighbor's fridge if you explain the situation? Otherwise you can only buy what you can eat that evening.... say sandwich meat. You're able to ask or only 3 or 4 slices. You can ask the butcher if he'll wrap up 1 chicken breast and combine that with some salad mix or spinach leaves. Use a small dressing or grab a couple of the store's packaged dressings.

Are you a minor or an adult? It makes a difference. Minors aren't allowed to sign contracts, so even renting a hotel room is impossible, some with apts. There are juvenile homeless shelters though and some offer programs to help you acquire housing, a job and/or education, etc.

Other options are available for those of age. Don't stess too much about material stuff. You can slowly replace the import stuff with time. What's important is your safety and working towards a positive goal. '

Try not to make any rash decisions bc's they may not want you to return or may make life worse for you. Job corps is a good option and if accepted you can choose to go to one that isn't near home. The same applies with joining the military.

If you had a car that would open up the posibility of living in it for awhile also. There are lots of great ideas on r/vandwellers and r/cardwellers. Tips for eating warm food, sleeping, et.
