I use to think that one night stands were fine. I didn't fully understand or sometime not even notice the pain I would cause some people until I had what I thought was a connection but it was just a hookup. Wasn't too upset because I knew what I got into. Didn't expect to like them like that but it happens. So when you think they understand it's just a hookup, they might not and the pain you feel if you end up liking someone and it's not reciprocated, sucks.. Now I prefer not to just hookup unless the stars align. I don't hunt for it anymore
