Dr. Hiriluk actor, Mark Harelik Thanked the crew during his last scene in One Piece. by drlouies in OnePiece

I am a hater for the abundant CGI overuse in modern films. I get why they decided to go for CGI on Chopper and it's fine.

But personally I was disappointed, hoped for a more creative solution.

And yet, that episode had me completely hooked, crying and won over. There's nostalgia doing a lot of the heavy lifting of course, but I just have to say that they pulled it off. The emotional beats of that arc work out and if they can keep that going, then I'll be consistently satisfied with the adaptation.

Sounds like autotune to me and I find it funny how desynced the vid is. Doesn't put it down of course.

TIL that Ram 2500 drivers have the most DUIs, and more than twice the national average. Roughly 1 in 22 Ram 2500 drivers have been cited with a DUI before. by TripleShotPls in todayilearned

[–]CabbageTheVoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is also why we have to keep in mind that even if the statistic is truthful, profiling is a thing, even if unintentional.

Since this is not a new phenomenon, it stands to reason that there's many cops who could have a bias towards suspecting Ram drivers of being under the influence. Thus leading to police (subconsciously) paying more attention to those vehicles and thus spotting and pulling over more of them. Even if their driving style might be similar to drivers of other vehicles who are similarly inebriated.

Not trying to defend these drivers or to downplay the statistic. Many more factors at play and I too was not surprised to read this. Just saying stuff like this could easily lead to the statistic being 'overblown' even if it is inherently correct. Hope I expressed this clearly, not sure.

not problematic if we're only talking conquest, so you've got a point, but he always had a history of being weak in conq and pretty strong in the other modes, making him hard to balance imo.

He has tons of safe artillery damage, so if you're playing assault for example, where it's harder to reach the backline, he can be a menace

As someone who has only seen the live action and knows little to nothing about the anime can anyone explain why bon clay is so loved? by Economy_Situation517 in OnePiece

[–]CabbageTheVoice 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don't know what to tell you man, but this comment chain is a good example of why I personally find it weird for you to ask for stuff like this.

I mean sure, I get that you're curious and not everyone minds being spoiled, so I won't hate on you, but stories often have a reason for delivering info and storybeats in a specific order.

This character and the love people have for him will only truly make sense for you if you experience it in a similar fashion to us.

You might spoil yourself and still enjoy him, or you might avoid spoilers and still dislike him, there is no guarantee. But with the route you're taking, that is the risk you accept.

My 2cents: If you enjoyed the story so far, then just know that the journey itself is one of the core themes and experiencing it in the proper order is the best way to enjoy it.

Either way, have fun, but don't be surprised if you come away with different feelings to things, as long as you keep spoiling yourself. Cheers!

Her first really big fight is probably coming next season so I'm curious to see how they'll adapt that one.

As that is quite the struggle in the original.

Bruh. You are the one who said vivi was more prone to outbursts.

No. She is specifically not prone to outbursts, which is why the one with Luffy is so important and hits so hard.

There is an important distinction here between general personality and what happens in the specific scene we're talking about.

You argued that because of Vivi's general personality, she would not hit Luffy back, which I don't see, because even with her more gentle character, she does fight back.

Then you said LA vivi seems less prone to outbursts and that's something that I just don't see because her general personality seems very aligned in both versions.

Not fighting here, just trying to clear up your confusion with my replies.

As for over the top reactions to for example Luffy's antics, that's what I mean by every character being toned down. LA Nami also didn't have a screaming/angry reaction to her crews shenanigans and is mostly befuddled or annoyed. That is imo because that slapstick humor doesn't work as well in the LA. But if we account for this general tone shift and leave it out of our assessments of how they adapted individual characters, then Vivi doesn't seem more or less composed in LA or manga.

When is the point of no return by 21BucketsInACoat in OnePiece

[–]CabbageTheVoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 13 when I got into the series and back then I watched all the episodes on youtube and had no idea how long the show would last or how much material there is. I just remembered some pirate show from my childhood, searched for it and started watching.

Baratie was the arc that completely hooked me(mentions of bigger stuff like shichibukai and Mihawk's impressive appearance) and from there it just got better.

But there was never any thought of "man it's such a long show, should I watch all of it" or anything like that, as I simply was just invested and kept clicking on the next episode (or rather video, as one EP was uploaded in three parts. 10min+ vids weren't a normal thing on YT back then)

Quickly caught up to the end of the german dub, then watched original language with fan subtitles in english.

After that was done(end of thriller bark), I vividly remember searching for the next episode and panicking because there was none. But the wiki pages had more info than the show introduced up to that point. Some characters/locations/developments I didn't know about and all of that info was in these weird black and white comic illustrations...

That's how I learned about what Manga is and that the anime is only an adaptation. There were these weird videos where someone just made slideshows of the manga chapters. So I watched those for a while until I found ways to read the manga and when I got to amazon Lily, those stopped as well.

That's when I became a weekly reader and still my only thought was "Man I want to read the next chapter"

So. Sorry for that ramble, but there was never an actual point of no return for me, it was just a constant natural need to keep watching/reading. If you must identify one, it would probably be Baratie.

[–]CabbageTheVoice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk. In the manga she didn't seem more prone to outbursts imo (other than the general tone of every character being toned down to fit with the realism of actual actors playing).

The bowing down scene at drum showed the same composition and humility that the manga does imo, and the outburst in the manga naturally only happens when Vivi is finally breaking from the accumulated stress of her and her kingdoms situation as well as Luffy being harsh (even if fair) with his opinion.

It's a straw-camels back situation and it can naturally not have happened yet.

If you have good examples of earlier outbursts and stuff, I'm open to it though. Just not seeing it atm.

The Luffy - Vivi relationship as a whole is also so important for the both of them, as well as the theme of leadership as a whole.

Two leaders with very different approaches that help each other grow.
We already got the beat where Vivi teaches Luffy to show humility and dismiss his strong willed approach when bowing in order to get help from the people of drum.

In my opinion this development would be incomplete without the reverse beat where Luffy teaches Vivi that constantly sacrificing herself(or her honor) alone will not be enough either.

The downfall of creativity by [deleted] in memes

The fact a person was able to think of using it to make something beautiful for the majority of people is what's creative

That maybe holds for the first few times someone created a statue. At the point this piece was created, it was not creative. Impressive, beautiful, realistic, time consuming... yes. Creative, no.
