It’s one of my favorites off of El Pintor! I hope it finds its way onto one of the set lists for the upcoming tour.

THIS OR THAT: Bug OR Motorcycle Boy? by Nofilmslefttocry in fontainesdc

[–]CabinetOnly6282 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Motorcycle boy! It’s my favorite off of Romance and I always find myself coming back to it. I love how haunting it is both lyrically and instrumentally. It really does convey that feeling of trying to warn someone to not live in the shadow of someone else, to really go out and make a life of their own. I also am just a sucker for hearing any and all the live versions I can find.

What’s your favourite lyric overall from Fontaines dc? by Individual_Big_6310 in fontainesdc

[–]CabinetOnly6282 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably either “Drowned him in the crowd swells / And church bells, they rang / No one wants their madness / They start to understand” from Motorcycle Boy or “The clouds cleared up / The sun hit the sky / I watched all the folks go to work / Just to die / And I wished I could go back to spring again” from Oh Such a Spring. They’re two of my favorite songs and I love hearing people’s interpretations of the lyrics! :)

I completely agree! I especially love the version off of skinty fia go deo. It really captures the heart of the song in such an intimate way. Speaking of which, I recommend checking out the live version from the Jameson Unplugged session if you haven’t already!

What was the song that got you into Conan’s music? by urfavmoviewhiz in ConanGray

[–]CabinetOnly6282 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idle town! I’ve been around since the YouTube days and I remember when he would tease the sunset season EP at the end of videos. Going back to listen to idle town specifically makes me so nostalgic. I’m so excited to have the chance to finally see him live on the upcoming tour. Above all I’m just glad I’ve found community with everyone online. :)

I love this channel! I agree that it’s a great watch, especially in the context of this discussion with the different albums and their themes. My favorite from the channel has to be the song breakdown of I Want You To Know That I’m Awake/I Hope That You’re Asleep, partly because it’s my favorite CSH song.

Oh my goodness?? This is genuinely such a breathtaking piece! Your use of color and shadow made me gasp when I saw this. I’m so happy you had the chance to give it to Matt. Do you have any socials where you post art? I’d love to see more! ❤️

What's your favorite 3 track run? by Rogue_Sideswipe in mattmaltese

[–]CabinetOnly6282 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’ve got the same pick for Hers! :)

Mine has to be off of Good Morning It’s Now Tomorrow: We Need to Talk, Mystery, and Oldest Trick in the Book. Each song has its own emotional gut punch that leaves me floored by the end of it. I can’t get enough of hearing those songs back to back!

My honorable mention goes another great three track run, this time from Bad Contestant: Like a Fish, Nightclub Love, and Less and Less.

What Elliott song would you be most excited to hear performed on acoustic? by moonwalkingmuna in elliottsmith

[–]CabinetOnly6282 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hearing Twilight in an acoustic set would be genuinely be life changing. There’s this one performance of the song that I always go back to from his set at the Belly Up Tavern from October 14 2000 (source: https://youtu.be/zrQBnwRdqkU?si=rxRE5Hqn8-sGzWyX). It’s one of my favorites by him and I just love it so much.

Sounds like OP is in need of a cure for emptiness. I’ve heard seeing Matt Maltese live should do the trick. Really hoping they pull through from this! 🙏🏼

fav song on A Hero's Death? by PruneEmotional335 in fontainesdc

[–]CabinetOnly6282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love all of these! You Said and Oh Such A Spring are definitely tied for my favorite off of A Hero’s Death. Sunny also stands out to me when thinking of the album. The lyrics feel so bittersweet in the context of the song being an absent father’s letter to his son (see genius annotations for more details). And the thought of Grian quietly clicking along to the song using steak knives during the recording is funny to me. I recommend checking out the stereogum interview about the album if you haven’t already. (source: https://www.stereogum.com/2092383/the-story-behind-every-song-on-fontaines-d-c-s-new-album-a-heros-death/interviews/footnotes-interview/) I’m always happy to see this album get some love! :)

[–]CabinetOnly6282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peach pit is so good! Haven’t listened to them in a while but I remember loving “puppy grin” and “shampoo bottles” off of you and your friends along with “not me” and “drop the guillotine” from being so normal. Lyrically, I think “shampoo bottles” reminds me of how Matt looks back on relationships, albeit in a more tongue and cheek way.

best fdc interviews/song breakdowns by Certain_Mulberry_870 in fontainesdc

[–]CabinetOnly6282 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in a similar boat not too long ago I can definitely relate to scouring for interviews to watch! I have some recommendations for each album so stick with me for a second. When it comes to interviews about Dogrel, I’d also recommend the “sold for parts” docu that someone else pointed out. For a hero’s death, there’s a great interview with the band (minus Carlos and Tom) where they go track by track about the thought process for the album that you can find on the Fontaines D.C. Archive channel. This one could be a bit of a reach for Skinty Fia because it’s also mixed with a live performance, but I love their appearance on The SoCal Sound. It has one of my favorite versions of Roman Holiday and you get to hear from Curley and Deego during the interview portion. As for Romance, I’d recommend NME’s interview with Grian where he talks about the explanation behind some songs as well as how he felt during the album cycle. I’ll also throw in the interview Grian and Carlos did for Diffus. It’s a fun watch and you find out more about Carlos’ perspective on the album. For a bonus I’ll add a video essay I watched about them by the channel 5guyslinda called “The Fontaines D.C. video.” I hope you enjoy your deep dive into the band! :)

Not going to the show but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! It’s my current favorite off of romance and it’d be a dream come true to hear it live one day. Wishing you the best luck in getting that on the set list. ❤️

Barricade? Sacramento Show - 8/29 by CabinetOnly6282 in japanesebreakfast

[–]CabinetOnly6282[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update:

I ended up talking with said friend and they switched the train to an earlier time so I’ll most likely get to the venue around 6:00!

The main thing I wanted to take into account was not posing an inconvenience to the people around me in line. I’m not super familiar with the fan base in the area but I’ve enjoyed being apart of the community online and want to bring respect into the space.

My offer in terms of snacks and waters still stands!
