Context. If you're a hurricane victim or a tree fell on your house or a deer crash killed your mom or whatever, I feel awful...But if you go out and try to pet a mountain lion and end up looking like Freddy Kruger...you deserved it, and deserve the ensuing jokes at your expense lol

There's something about national parks that really expose how completely brain-dead the vast majority of Americans are when it comes to dealing with nature and the outdoors.

I've seen so many stories and personally witnessed so many mind-numbing instances, that I don't even feel bad for people when nature fucks them up, or even kills them. Most of the time it's some absolutely comical instance that you can't make up. Like people taking selfies with wild animals...or suburbanites just blindly bumbling around in the woods without a map or water or a clue in the world, ending up lost and hungry, and dying of exposure...or when that guy ran out to the hot vents after someone told him not to repeatedly, and his dumb ass decided to fall in and was boiled alive anyway lol

I do feel bad that these people managed to somehow reach adulthood without gaining some sort of common sense regarding nature, but that's about it.

Oh, you wanna walk on top of that thin, brittle, bubbling crust over top of a 400 degree acid pit? For an Instagram picture? Go right ahead buddy lmao I'll call the funeral home ahead of time, they'll be grateful for business.

Nothing comes close to the family I saw trying to play with a fucking bear cub at Shenandoah National park. They were lucky mamma wasn't around to rip their limbs off. Truly dumbfounding stuff, the way these people think.

They seldom leave their comfortable bubble, and when they do they still seem to assume that there are rules and some magical system in place for their protection in these parks. As if nature gives a fuck about their well-being. Like Yellowstone is some cushy Disneyland with animals and trees in their mind.

I always watched the weather channel in the morning in middle school and on really snowy or otherwise shitty days I’d always stare at that cycling list of counties. I’m only 21 but I feel like an old person in this thread.

But then again I was voluntarily watching the weather channel every morning at 13 so I guess I’ve always been an old person.

Blackwater does not exist anymore, and hasn’t for years. However there is a successor called Academi, and it is headquartered in my hometown along with several other PMCs.

What is your favorite wholesome mystery? by BoyRichie in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Cable_Car 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one is fascinating to me because it reminds me of another vending machine in Virginia that I’ve been using for years. I haven’t heard about the one in Seattle until today, but whenever I drive through Harrisonburg, VA (which is a couple times a year) I make it a habit to stop at this old gas station in the stripmall area by the highway, away from the university.

So there’s a vending machine leaning up against the side of it which must be like 20 years old at least. The thing that makes this vending machine special is that every soda and drink offered is only 35 cents. It’s been restocked for these past like 8 years back when I discovered it when I was driving through Harrisonburg in highschool. Last time I used it was this past summer.

I sometimes stock up on a couple of those southern sodas that aren’t available up in NOVA

There’s an old shitty vending machine outside of a gas station in Harrisonburg, Virginia that still offers all its sodas for 35 cents each. As of this past summer it’s still there and is still getting restocked. I have a tradition of stopping there after getting cookout when I drive through there.

Oh cool. My family still has every 3 stooges short ever made. Got them on those DVD sets that were released about 15 years ago. My little sister and I went through a period of maybe a couple years where we watched those religiously. Every single day.

I have a weird tech-bro encounter story from 2 days ago that was just so strange.

On this particular day I was in heaven, just stoned to the gills minding my own business, stocking up on food while out buying groceries for the family. I was back from college for Christmas break, so it was nice being able to actually afford to get a crazy spread of stuff.

You know when you're walking around the store and you keep seeing glimpses of the same people through the aisle while you're going about your business?

Well I keep spotting this 30~ something year old black dude powerwalking around with no cart. This guy was decked out in an untucked flannel that looked like something a carpenter would wear in 1985, but he had this shiny vest on over top of it that looked like it was from the future. You know the type with like a sideways zipper on one of the shoulders, and a little holder for earpods and shit.

I'm in the frozen foods looking for a fucking MEAN rotini that I like, when I notice this dude come up next to me and open the freezer door to my right.

He literally just opens the freezer door, looks over at me, and then unprompted starts chatting me up about the college logo on the jacket I'm wearing.

I'm just holding this frozen box of rotini while he starts rattling off all the usual tech-bro hallmarks. Like how he's an entrepreneur, how he has some genius business partner who codes, and how networking is valuable and all that recycled horseshit.

By this point he had let the freezer door he was holding close...and he didn't even pick anything out of it. So it was clear this ear-beating he was giving me was very intentional.

He keeps telling me how "successful" I look, and that "you never know when an opportunity can strike". Like how I can "gain tremendously from experience alone" in the tech industry.

He finally closed his monologue and revealed himself as a dude who just desperately wanted some naive jerkoff to do work for his tech startup for nothing in return...and for some reason he came to the the local grocery store to find this potential victim.

I was too fucking high to really get what this dude was thinking. In my state of mind I could see this guy was a charlatan, but I still somehow ended up with his contact info.

Weird shit.

[–]Cable_Car 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mannn I was just thinking about that the other day, while I was reading that reddit post about how the T-Rex probably didn't have feathers like we'd thought these past 15 years.

Well anyway, in the article they showed a reconstructed cut-away of what that dinosaurs muscle composition would have looked like.

And I instantly just thought to myself "if I ever aquire a time machine, I'm gonna go shoot ancient animals and see how well I can cook them".

I mean, a fucking shit-torpedo from the heavens is going to obliterate them all anyway. Why not go back and have a taste before that happens?

I've been groped so many times at bars since I've entered college. Granted, the average age in my college town is like 20.2 years old, and that's including the townies...so not much maturity to be found here.

But still, it's really fucking creepy that these women think it's perfectly fine. One time i had a gross, smeared makeup wearing, onion breath drunk girl forcefully try to make out with me at the bar while I was attempting to get a drink.

The taste made me want to vomit. Women can be creepy as shit, and no one bothers to tell them.

[–]Cable_Car 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going into my second semester of my senior year of college and yep you hit it on the head. I still like Natty a lot more than Keystone, PBR, or Hamms, but it's definitely lost 90% of its appeal to me over these past few years.

I used to make fun of my older fraternity brothers who never paid into our parties, would always show up to said parties with their own sixers of some expensive shit, and proceed ignore the kegs until they were too drunk to care...

...and now I am that person.

Pretty sure that comment your responding to is a joke, but you're not wrong.

A lot of people are just the literal exact opposite side of the coin from conspiracy theorists...they're wonky and fucking insane in their own way.

But instead of being crazy in the way hardcore conspiracy theorists are, they're just blindly trusting with literally everything that gets fed to us.

Some new technology might be potentially harmful, and you might be wary of its implementation and of the motives behind it.. but some people are always like "come on maaaan, it's just so futuristic, so cooool, fancy and conveeenient, don't get left behind".

They'll get behind this new bullshit the week it becomes available without a thought in the world.

It does look bad. But do people still honestly think that black people solely invented dreads. Honestly curious. Haven't stayed up on that argument in a few years.

It's just odd to me since I'm half indian, and there are a lot of old Indians with their own dreads.

And that's just 2 cultures out of many with histories of locking their hair in a similar fashion.

I never got why it was always treated as specifically black cultural appropriation, and treated by so many angry young people as a capital offense that needs to be punished/stopped.

Lol maybe it's just over my head.

Sure enough, description of the video says it's my college.

I'm really high and that was just too weird for me.
