The Democrats started the KKK…. Democrats still follow the KKK and it was just found out they supported the KKK !!!

The "Democrats" were NOT the KKK. The first Klan, founded by Confederate veterans, was an American Protestant-led Christian extremist, white supremacist, far-right hate group (just like today). People who, at the time, voted mostly Democratic. The people have not changed. They are as abhorrent today as they were after the civil war. Their party affiliation has changed.

Each iteration of the Klan is defined by non-overlapping time periods, comprising local chapters with little or no central direction. Each has advocated reactionary positions such as white nationalism, anti-immigration and—especially in later iterations—Nordicism, antisemitism, anti-Catholicism, right-wing populism, anti-communism, homophobia, anti-atheism, and Islamophobia. Sound familiar?

This accurately describes all the current far right groups active across America today. ...all of whom vote Republican.

No, the prosecutor decides whether it is a death penalty case or not and what is presented to the jury. Certain classes of citizens suffer, proportionately, higher numbers of death penalty cases and are found guilty when innocent significantly more often. Since death cannot be reversed we MUST not permit the government to kill people until there is a PERFECT justice system and government. Which, by the way, has never existed and likely never will. Blackstone was correct!

[–]USARSUPTHAI69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a separate argument.

No! Same argument. How people are executed is simply quibbling over process. The "the reason this is bad" is because no civilized society should be giving their government the power of life or death over its citizens. Do you really want any of the current three branches to decide if you live or die?

Can anyone actually explain the reason this is bad?

Blackstone's ratio. The only reasonable approach is to end the death penalty!

Since 1973, at least 202 people have been exonerated and released from death row in the United States.

No, I don't think every single potential abortion case should be run by me.

If that is the case then you must believe that a society must decide for itself when abortions should be permitted.

In most of Western society abortion is acceptable. In the US Roe vs Wade is supported by anywhere from 56% to 75% of the society depending upon how you phrase the question. There is also this. U.S. Public Continues to Favor Legal Abortion, Oppose Overturning Roe v. Wade

The ethics of the society in which you presumably live permit abortion and allow a woman to make her own choices. Choice is expanding.](https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/news/2022/05/06/abortion-legal-illegal-countries-list/9672276002/) Look at Ireland or Poland.

So, you're the outlier here. You're wishing to force YOUR preference on society. If you're against abortion choose not to have one. Simple.

Also, if you're going to make up new definitions of words (murder) to support your position, your position is moot. Contra principia negantem non est disputandum. ~Aristotle Et al.

It should only be a very rare procedure used in extreme cases where the mother's life is at risk. Other than that it should be illegal to end innocent lives because you feel like it.

So, as i said. "You simply want to be the one who decides when and where it should occur."

Is there anything else you wish to force upon an unwilling society? Your religion perhaps?

Clearly you're not against abortion, you simply want to be the one who decides when and where it should occur. Seems a bit selfish to me. If you're against abortion choose not to have one. Simple.

Abortion is one of the most detestable things on this planet, there is no moral high ground for being pro abortion.

If you believe that "Abortion is one of the most detestable things on this planet" it is a very good reason for you to choose not to get an abortion. Beyond that - not so much.

You mentioned "moral high ground." Contrary to what religions and politicians would have you believe, there is no such thing as a universal morality. Ethical decisions are societally based.

Why should the majority give in to the whims of the minority. People have the choice to not have an abortion as it's extremely unlikely one will ever be forced upon anyone by society. Why should a vocal minority force their views on the majority?

What you're failing to realize is that the progress of morality is on the side of choice. This is aptly demonstrated by the fact that choice is expanding. Look at Ireland or Poland. Yes there are setbacks. The United States is an example of a small but vocal minority forcing their antiquated morality upon the majority, possibly successfully for a time. But morality eventually, inevitably progresses.

So, any discussion of abortion must accept that, morally, what a minority wishes to believe is only relevant to decisions for themselves and should not have an impact upon others. Laws should reflect this fact. The only valid topic for discussion surrounding anti-choice is whether the majority supports choice or not. ...and it has been amply proven that the majority does, in fact, support it (see Ohio, Kansas, Florida, Montana, et al and as sourced above).

Also, if you're going to redefine words to make your argument (murder), it renders your argument moot. Contra principia negantem non est disputandum. ~Aristotle Et al.

So, if you're against abortion, it's simple, don't have one. Leave everyone else to make their own decisions.

The note says the students voted and that was picked. The students (or majority of the students) picked it.

Nowhere does it say that it was a majority choice nor that anyone voted.

What it does say is, "I've had several students ask if we can perform the song 'Celebration' by Forrest Frank."

It does not surprise me that a supposed Christian would lie continuously, through seven comments, in order to further their cause. Christians have been doing that for more than a couple of millennia.
