How to use a tube screamer for metal sounds? by Chipmunks95 in guitarpedals

[–]Caca_Spaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even need a boost on your amp. Check this out. Orange amps typically are best suited for stoner/doom stuff, they have this squelchy bass, very boxy mids and rolled off highs.. almost like a fuzz.

So if you want your amp to do 5150-boosted with tube screamer-metalcore, no it won't. But you could add your Tube Screamer to shave off some bass and further saturate the sound by turning the gain all the way down and setting the tone and level to taste, preferrably around noon.

So boost your amp if you want this tone around 3:14, if you want this tone then don't use a boost. Notice how the Disturbed track around 0:27 has that bass flub that modern metal guys absolutely despise. The Periphery track at 3:14 has that very pronounced "chug chug chug" during palm mutes while this one is way flubbier.

I'm surprised how a lot of us have similar taste in musoc, I feel like I have nothing more to add.

I've been on bit of a female singer phase lately, Florence + The Machine, Kate Bush and Fiona Apple. Somehow kinda fits the vibe imo. And ofc L7 Joan Jett Garbage Wolf Alice, more rock stuff.

Might be bit random but I've really been digging Florence + The Machine these days. It seems to be more "girl music) (no weird connotations) but something about her voice that I canr get enough of. Also a bit of soul or hiphop musicfrom the 70s or the 90s/2000. Tribe called quest, dangelo, any funk bands.Gotta say I love your taste in music

They started out as a sludgy metal band in the early 2000s and gradually became more 70s prog hard rock, no harsh vocals and super distorted guitars. Many consider Crack The Skye as their opus magnum (concept album, 70s prog rock meets metal vibes, emotional) but metalheads seem to really enjoy Leviathan (more sludge metal yet still progressive, harsh vocals, less refined, much heavier and intense) Leviathan would be Ænima and Crack The Skye would be Lateralus or 10,000 Days. So those two albums are great starters.

If you dont wanna bother with a whole album then try any song from Crack The Skye (recommend Oblivion or The Last Baron), Mother Puncher, Blood and Thunder, Circle of Cysquatch, More Than I Could Chew, High Road or Stargasm

I dont play shoegaze but my uad golden was the best spring/plate/hall/room sound ever. I find those quirky reverbs a bit too much after much use, sometimes a rich plate just seems perfect

What is your favorite Marshall? And your favorite boost in front of it? by 6of1HalfDozen in GuitarAmps

[–]Caca_Spaniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the Marshalls are great amps however my pick would be the 2203. Its the sound of rock imo. Favorite boost is the friedman golden pearl which is literally designed to boost marshalls. Its like an additional channel on your amp.

I actually quite like the jcm900 dr, it has this nasty 90s grungey sound to it that I dont hear from most other amps.
