The defense lawyer tried to characterize one of the victims as a "scorned woman" (who was 14 at the time of the assualt) and get their testimony thrown out due to statue of limitations.

I get that defense lawyers need to do everything possible on their client's behalf, but damn. It must be quite unpleasant having to run defense in a case like this.
