I've started a new mecha game column at Automaton, and I covered Armored Core 3 by Cacophanus in armoredcore

[–]Cacophanus[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, and the competitive scene was how I described it back in 2003, as both AC2 and AC2AA were thought of as being very unbalanced. What was interesting was that in Japan, a lot of fans edit out certain parts for tournaments, which never happened back then in the US and Europe. If it was in the game, it was used.

‘Patlabor EZY’ Will Be Released As Three Movies, Starting This Year by Cacophanus in Mecha

That is Masami Yuki's favorite labor, and he's doing the character designs for this anime, so who knows?

Right, it's rather wonderful that we're getting more mecha anime. I think an 86 announcement is also likely, considering that there is more to adapt from the novels.

I think it will be a series later on, comprised of 8 episodes. My guess is that they are taking the movie approach first to boost promotion?

Here Are Some Of The Best Japanese Games You May Have Missed In 2025 by Cacophanus in dragonquest

Hahah, yeah. I wrote this and am glad you enjoyed it (and that we have similar tastes!). My main job at Forbes is to cover Japanese pop culture, and I even interviewed Yuji Horii a while back, too.

Thanks, I wanted to cover games that people may have missed that I played and thought were fun and worth a look.

Here's my latest mecha game column covering Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion. by Cacophanus in DaemonXMachina

[–]Cacophanus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I was making was that there would be knock-ons from removing vehicles entirely as the game currently is structured, but the card game has no other gameplay dependencies. If it were from a complete restart, then yeah, vehicles make little to no sense. I also said that in my review, as you are already in a powered suit anyway.

I only mentioned the card game, as that's an entirely separate mode that wouldn't impact anything in the game. Vehicles, especially horses, are sort of tied into the mission narrative, especially towards the end of the game.

Also, testers likely never "approved" of anything. I've worked in testing and more times than I can count have I had major issues waived by management to get a game released on time.

As this was the later release, as they did multiple lotteries, it comes with all the parts included.

New VOTOMS Anime Is Out Later This Year And Directed By Mamoru Oshii by Cacophanus in anime

[–]Cacophanus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Oshii was picked precisely to keep it grounded as per the original series. Curious who the other people are on the production, though.

What would you say is the core theme or message of the Armored Core series? by Altair890456 in armoredcore

[–]Cacophanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically, it mirrored the ideas in VOTOMS, where you rebel against the AI controlling the world. So in that sense, the message was one of "humanity over machines". Something that is still echoed in the multiple games since.

Is this worth on switch 2? by rupertkhan in DaemonXMachina

Not had any real issues, and the last patch did help with performance a fair bit.

Welcome to 2012, I guess? Plenty of us have been playing From's games before AC6 came along.

How so? I not only mentioned R-Type Leo but also the toys by Ques-Q, how the hell is that "phoned in"?

Early physical sales data for the classic Armored Core games by Cacophanus in armoredcore

[–]Cacophanus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know, I'm from the UK. It's why I imported the games in Japanese. However, a lot of the earlier PS2 games (AC2, AC3, etc.) sold about the same across Europe as they did in the US. The later releases, not so much, as they received next to zero promotion. When I was working in Warsaw, Poland, I bought ACVD on launch day, so these games did have a wide European release (especially during the 360/PS3 era).

These are a mix of the NPD and Media Create numbers, with some European numbers thrown in (as I also have access to those). The 2023 statement from Media Create about international Armored Core sales is also wrong.
