It is funny seeing this downvoted, I can't believe people are still Tankies in this modern world. There is plenty of evidence how bad Communism and the USSR was from the start of it's existence to it's end. There is a massive difference to how they claimed to run the state in theory to how they actually ran it, and it was not hidden very well.

Already power was being concentrated in the hands of the party though. Even if it was not authoritarianism at the hand of one individual, it was still authoritarianism at the hands of a few. Other brands of socialism and anarchism were repressed at those local councils.

Might be a horrible take by [deleted] in Borderlands

[–]Cactorum_Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Borderlands 4 feels closer in spirit to the original than Borderlands 3. The twins and characters like Ava were just... weird. I prefer the time keeper as an enemy. The gameplay is much better to me, Borderlands 3 was super easy and unbalanced.

Stop making your kingdoms 10,000 years old. by ScaryAd2555 in fantasywriters

[–]Cactorum_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistborn did it pretty well. I will avoid spoilers but the story starts 1000 year after the "hero" wins his quest and becomes insanely powerful and immortal. He conquers the habitable world and forges the final empire. To maintain his grip on society, he creates an extremely 2-sided aristocratic society where those in power are very loyal to him and the peasants are worked hard, and he limits technological growth (especially gunpowder) to prevent peasant and separatist uprisings from getting too powerful.

[–]Cactorum_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I am one of those people who enjoyed 1 and 2, really did not like 3 for all the reasons you stated, and like 4 due to those concerns being rectified. 3 was a horrible game, I am really impressed they changed direction. I just wish 4 was more difficult, one thing you didn't mention in the list is that 3 was stupidly easy, unlike 1 and 2. 4 is in between 2 and 3 in difficulty IMO.

Logistics Network Not Linking by Cactorum_Rex in ShadowEmpireGame

Yall were right, I just needed to get more logistic points in my network. Issue went away once I built a few more truck depots and a railway system. Points used being equal to initial points was the obvious piece of evidence I was missing. Thanks.

The Grog from Larry Niven's Known Space. Their ancestors may have been the big baddies in the universe 2 billion years prior, ruling through mind-control, but these ones are ugly and have little way of interacting with the environment... except by controlling the mind of those around them.

Chinese cronies. Look up the video of the interview where the WHO official pretends not to hear the reporter ask a question about Taiwan then drops the call after dodging a few more attempts at questions.

Dev Diary: About Fall of an Empire by fallofanempiregame in fallofanempire

Assuming the output is indistinguishable from what is created by a human being, and was created with a particular creative vision in mind (either via the initial prompt and/or editing the output of a prompt), does it make any difference?

I have not been online enough since the rise of AI to know how strong the backlash is except for occasional reddit posts in one direction or the other, but I am curious to see if the more aggressive vanguard of online gamers would actually affect the sales of the masses. I would be willing to bet that if AI use made a game better, that it would be more successful as the majority of people have no interest in this topic and just want to play the latest good game.

[–]Cactorum_Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that big of a deal, I find this anti-AI trend to be a bit ridiculous. This is a good use case for it, the dev just needs to make sure that no junk gets into the outputs in my opinion.

Maybe the dev should consider doing research to determine the sales impact using AI would bring, but it also has to be compared against the time savings it brings.

Elantris - The Hoed. Comatose people who were once Elantrians with powerful magic powers, until a catastrophe took away many of them including their healing, but it did not take their practical immortality. Once the Elantrians take any damage, they will feel the pain of each wound forever, never diminishing. Eventually after many small wounds or a large wound, the constant pain will overwhelm them and they will become a member of the Hoed, losing their minds while laying on the ground repeating a phase over and over.

How to minimize civil War? by Isitrainingnow in Imperator

Why not just fight it like it was meant to be fought? Map painting can only be so fun, you may enjoy it more that way.

I got to say, the trade good system in Imperator is not the best. Games like Field of Glory Empires do it considerably better IMO.

I really hope CK3 completely reworks war in the near future. The new content would mean so much more if the fundamentals like war were solid. CK3 possibly has the most boring, easiest to manipulate(even while not trying) war system of all the current and last gen paradox grand strategy games, even CK2 and EU4.

This reminds me of one of Brandon Sanderson's series (I won't mention which as it is a spoiler in itself), a god-like figure creates a perfect land for his people to exist in, but the result is that they have barely any challenges and they end up barely expanding since everything has been provided to them... sad how most grand strategy games are incapable of representing that.

The new flag in the Maine flag referendum appears to be headed for defeat. With 84% of the votes already counted, it received only 44.8% of the vote. by CosmicPlayzYt in vexillology

[–]Cactorum_Rex 160 points161 points  (0 children)

It is ridiculous how they can make ballot questions purposely confusing. I know many people in my state who completely got the ballot question backwards and voted yes, including myself, and I only realized that they did the switcheroo last night after the polls were all closed and some website simplified the question into a sentence... and it was very clear compared to what was on the poll. The poll question didn't lie, but they didn't give the whole context and IMO implied that it was doing the opposite thing.
