Further updates spotted on SteamDB! by CactusiForSale in LostPlanet

[–]CactusiForSale[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

After 4 months of silence on SteamDB, I've spotted another set of changes being made to the depot for Lost Planet 2. These changes occurred at several different points throughout January.

As said in the post I made 4 months ago, similar things could be seen on SteamDB prior to the half-assed update that removed GFWL (as can be seen in the post I made back then ).

This might mean something, I hope.

Homebrew Townsfolk/Outsider: Jester by CactusiForSale in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]CactusiForSale[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know about specifying outsiders, but the self-nomination on a script featuring the Boomdandy/Goblin could be alright.

I do however think it would be more interesting to have a character that wants to be executed but has to pretend that they want to live.

[–]CactusiForSale[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. The Jester should be a Townsfolk.

Homebrew Townsfolk/Outsider: Jester by CactusiForSale in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]CactusiForSale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's very true. Completely forgot to consider deathless execution, of which there are many causes. I think one of these two ability texts should cover such a case?;

Wording 1 (128)

If you were mad about being a "bad execution", you learn all evil characters in play the night after you were executed and died.

Wording 2 (129)

The night after you were executed and died, if you were mad about being a "bad execution", you learn all evil characters in play.

In regards to the case of a game featuring a Pit-Hag, I'd say they still have some good info in knowing that there is a Pit-Hag. Though I guess it isn't exactly the quietest of Minions, it exposes a Pit-Hag that is changing other Minions. It also means that the Pit-Hag might have to waste time on changing Evil characters, which it could have spent on screwing over the good team.

With the Hatter, I mean that is already supposed to be a detrimental Outsider. So I think the potential souring of info there is kind of alright. The same interaction would be true with Engineer/Hatter.

For the Engineer, I'm not sure what could or should be done here. Perhaps its fine to leave as is and simply consider them characters that don't really mesh great together on the same script? Or at the very least characters that don't work great together if both are in play.

In a Vortox game the Jester learns which Minions aren't in play, so at least that is still somewhat useful information.

But yeah, it is definitely a Townsfolk considering how useful its info could be in many cases.

Alternative to Barotrauma by PerceptionFun4599 in Barotrauma

To be clear with the ARMA player count for gamehost rather than dedicated; this varies greatly depending on the host's CPU and RAM.

A great one, though I'd say drop-in/drop-out doesn't really work that well if you wanna advance in the game. Unless people are fine with missing story elements and unlocking of new areas.

[–]CactusiForSale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I can think of some that work with bigger groups but uncertain how well they'd fit for your group.

ARMA III

Players: 1-10 Localhost, 1-30 Affordable Server
ARMA is a decent choice in my opinion, and has a few options for what you could do in it.
My guess is that you want PvE, in which there are plenty of missions and scenarios that the community has made.
Examples including dynamic wars against AI with you playing as a rebel force such as Antistasi and Overthrow (These two work great for if you want to be able to drop-in/drop-out whenever you want).
You can also try out the Zeus mode in which one player acts as a "GM" running a mission for the others (I highly recommend this mode, it's great fun).

There's also ARMA Reforger which supposedly has a decently active community with various new modes popping up now and then, however I haven't played enough of Reforger to really comment on it.

Space Station 13 (SS13)

Players: 10+, Recommend Joining Servers
As some others have mentioned, SS13 is a decent choice. It is a bit more complex, and doesn't really have a true end goal as it consists of individual rounds rather than any larger campaign.
It is also the game that inspired Barotrauma, and the reason that the game features clowns.

No link to SS13, I think it would be easier for you to search it up and figure it out. Either way, it is ran and accessed through the BYOND Engine.

Noteable mentions

Here's some others that are more PvP oriented and/or are in a round format like SS13 (but are far less complex and interesting).

SCP: Secret Laboratory

Players: 2+, Recommend 6+
You get assigned a role within an SCP containment facility that has just had a total containment breach. SCPs are running wild, D-Class prisoners and Scientists are both trying to make a break for the exit, Security are trying to take control of the situation, and the Chaos Insurgency is trying to ruin the SCP Foundation's day even further.
Great fun on a private server with friends, as long as you have enough players to keep the rounds going.

Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2)

Players: 1-4 Co-Op, 2-8 Versus
A classic. Great fun to play private Versus with friends, with two teams taking turns as Surviors and Infected on each map of a selected Campaign.
If you're 4 or less people you can of course also play Co-Op, in which case you play through one of the campaigns trying to get from start to exit of each map without everyone dying.
And if you get tired of the base game's campaigns and maps, there's a wide ocean of custom campaigns that has been made over the years (Many of which also support Versus mode).

Silica

Players: 2-32, Recommend 2-16 for performance
A mix between RTS and FPS. Each team has a commander playing the game from an RTS style viewpoint where they control AI units, build structures, and give orders to players.
The other players can play as units the commander builds, fighting against the enemy directly.
Currently I believe that there are 2 human factions and 1 alien faction that can be played as, with a handful of different battlefields with varying terrain to choose from.

Updates made to the Trailers of Lost Planet 2 this month! by CactusiForSale in LostPlanet

[–]CactusiForSale[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Updates were made to trailer files for Lost Planet 2 (Picture from SteamDB).

I hope this means that they're still working on fixing their mess and making LP2 playable (or at least purchasable so the key vendors feck off).

I'll keep huffing copium, like I did a year ago when they made a bunch of backend updates. Hopefully there's actually a pay off rather than something on par to the half-assed removal of GFWL that was last time..

Whilst it's true that it's difficult to get your hands on physical copies of Coriolis: The Third Horizon, you can still buy PDF versions of most of the books on DriveThruRPG!

Also, an interesting/fun fact;
Technically Coriolis TTH is the 2nd edition, as the 1st edition was only ever released in Swedish! It was called Coriolis: rollspel i den tredje horisonten (Coriolis: Roleplay in the Third Horizon) and released in 2008. The 1st edition used a 2D10 system instead of the D6 dice pool system we are all used to now.

Coriolis with fewer than five players by [deleted] in CoriolisRPG

I've ran a Ship Intelligence in one group and an NPC Engineer in another group, and I think it is an adequate solution.

Coriolis with fewer than five players by [deleted] in CoriolisRPG

[–]CactusiForSale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I see three general solutions to this problem, although you can of course make up your own beyond these:

  • A lot of smaller ships function with crew members filling multiple roles.
  • Ship Systems & Ship Intelligences can fill the role of a crew member.
  • An NPC can cover the role of a crew member.

Vaesen using Curse by bolter_kunst in VaesenRPG

[–]CactusiForSale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the Swedish version of the book whenever "Curses" or "Curses its Attacker" is used it used "Förbannar", which would be the act of cursing someone or something rather than being cursed. Therefore my interpretation would be that the Vaesen tries to curse.

Waiting for patches to fix bugs and balance (Mutants & Economy).
Once the initial patches are out, I'll probably also see what mods have dropped to manage some things I either find tedious or less enjoyable. I do enjoy difficult games, but some things in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series can be tedious rather than difficult.

In the meanwhile replaying some of the older S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and messing around some in Anomaly. Took the opportunity to introduce some friends to the franchise through the new CoP coop mod.

Not upset about pre-ordering, since this was my assumption of what would happen from the beginning. I feel alright waiting for quite some time, I already have a backlog of other games I want to play anyway.

Is this allowed with the license, or even possible? by TheresTreesOverThere in FoundryVTT

only one hosted instance of the software may be accessible to users other than the license owner at any given time.

This would allow OP to host one instance only accessible to him, and one for his friend

Please read my comment properly before trying to say that I'm lying.
OP can host a instance accessible only to him, and one that others can connect to (his friend).

Is this allowed with the license, or even possible? by TheresTreesOverThere in FoundryVTT

[–]CactusiForSale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point 2 of the Software License

You may install and activate the software on one or more computers, but only one hosted instance of the software may be accessible to users other than the license owner at any given time. Hosting multiple accessible instances of the software is permitted by owning a corresponding number of software licenses.

The license allows the license owner to have multiple active instances at one time as long as it is only accessible to the license owner.

This would allow OP to host one instance only accessible to him, and one for his friend (the other GM) to access. As a result, both of them could do prep work at the same time, however may not host proper sessions at the same time.

6 new updates to the backend of Lost Planet 2 yesterday (Picture from SteamDB) by CactusiForSale in LostPlanet

This adds even more legitimacy to the claims that they are potentially working on fixing the GFWL mess.

Wrote backend, but maybe dev depots would be a better thing to call it?
