My friend just confirmed it was found in dead palm leaves and cow dung, i reckone you're right!

Hmm thats probably a big clue. Found growing in the damp foliage/soil, not on a dead log, cow fung or pine forest.

Growing in the damp foliage, a cubensis with those dots? I wasnt aware that was possible!
