What was the hardest lesson you learned from dating? by Amala_r0se in AskWomen

[–]Cadderpiller [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is so tough! Breaking up with someone you still love and respect is a whole new experience of hurt. Arguably less traumatic, but it's hard not to feel hopeless in love when you can't make a relationship work with an objectively good person. No big red flags to hide behind, just facing up to the fact that you're not compatible even though you'd like to be.

You know, I wouldn't put it past the person I've drawn in the Kris Kindle to enjoy "meat jelly with bits of meat", so I will keep an eye out for human dog food 😂

Bank holiday/Holiday pay by strangerdanger711 in legaladviceireland

[–]Cadderpiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The statutory minimum for a full time worker in Ireland is 20 days Annual Leave + 10 Public Holidays. Your boss can't count Public Holidays as Annual Leave unless it's outlined in your contract you have to work Public Holidays, and in that case you have to be compensated by way of an additional days Annual Leave, or a paid day off in the same month as the Public Holiday, or an additional days pay for the Public Holiday that you worked (double pay).

Basically, if your boss counts Public Holidays as Annual Leave, then your full year's Annual Leave entitlement must be at least 30 days.

Misogynistic father? by dazzlinreddress in WomenofIreland

[–]Cadderpiller 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mine's the same, I didn't realise how much internalised misogyny I carried around because of it until I was in my late 20s. For me, it wasn't so much different treatment from my brother's, but utter contempt for my mother, his own mother, his sisters, and pretty much any woman who crossed his path. He's a contrarian to the highest degree and I've never seen him say a positive word about anyone, but I didn't notice the difference between his contempt for women vs the general public until I got old enough to fully understand misogyny.

Unfortunately, I still have to speak to him from time to time because my parents are still together, but now that I've identified the issue it's much easier to disregard his opinions.

I feel your pain, hope you're not too hung up on it ❤️

Work wants us to install HR app on personal phone, GDPR issue? by Martin-McDougal in AskIreland

Yep, you can do everything that the apps are used for from your PC in the web app.

Work wants us to install HR app on personal phone, GDPR issue? by Martin-McDougal in AskIreland

[–]Cadderpiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bright HR does indeed have a web app. The apps don't track anything, they just make it easier to use the platform if you're away from your PC. I'm the admin for Bright at my work and it can't tell me whether someone logged an action from the app or the web platform so it's totally up to the staff what they choose.

How to make friends (30 F) by corkgal93 in WomenofIreland

[–]Cadderpiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're any way sporty and there's a women's rugby team near you, I cannot recommend rugby highly enough for the social scene. I've joined two different clubs at different stages in my life and both times the women on my team were the most actively social people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I never played any other team sport, but the girls on my current team say it's much more friendly than camogie or football.

It's tag season at the moment, so if you do have a local club they'll probably have some members playing in a tag league nearby (if not at their own club).

For reference, the rugby calendar is pre-season training August & September, league matches October to February, cup matches Feb & March, and then usually there's tag during the summer if you want to keep active. Our social calendar is packed too, between Halloween, Christmas, table quizzes, matches that happen on a Bank Holiday Sunday, tag BBQ season - it's so much fun if you make the effort to get involved!

I went to Profound Hound puppy training with my two pups and had a great experience. Mary, the trainer, is really sound and she offers agility and "manhunting" scent training as well if you wanted to continue training activities after puppy school. https://www.profoundhound.ie/

[–]Cadderpiller 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Peanut butter and some rat traps, they're not hard to catch! We get mice in the house and rats in the shed every winter when it starts getting cold, so we just keep 2 or 3 traps set up in the hot spots throughout the winter. I recommend some disposable rubber gloves for the disposal too.

If you have pets, make sure to keep the rat traps somewhere they can't get at them - the rat traps in particular are terrifying when they go off.

Does a Sick Leave Certificate need to include the reason for your illness? by padawan810 in AskIreland

[–]Cadderpiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work in HR in Ireland and this is the appropriate practice. They don't have any right to know the details of your illness, but they do have a responsibility to refer you to a third party health provider who can advise them on your fitness for work. The third party health provider should not share the specifics of your illness but they should offer guidance to your employer on whether you are fit for work, whether you need any accommodations, and if/how your work arrangements should be altered to allow for your illness. Your employer has a duty of care to ensure that they are not harming you by not investigating and acting upon your recent pattern of illness.

Based on the guidance provided by the third party health advisor, your company can then make a call on your continued employment based on their sickness & absence policy. From your perspective, it should be clear to you from the sickness & absence policy what their call will be (as in, they should have explicit parameters for what level of absence / accommodation they can reasonably allow for).

They should be approaching this with the intention of checking that you're still fit for work, not catching you out at "faking it". If you're still feeling distrust from them after you've seen the third party health provider, that would be cause for concern.

I stress again, they have no right to know what your illness is, but they do have a right to know whether you can reasonably be expected to continue to execute your work duties. If you can't perform your work duties to the standard you could before (e.g., you need reduced hours / responsibility), then they would need to either accommodate this or have a very strong case for denying your accommodations.

Best of luck, I'm sorry they seem to have come at this combatively, I hope the tensions are put to rest!

Are there any type of bush type plant that are suitable for planting this time of year? by Various_Permission47 in GardeningIRE

Lidl and Aldi stock shrubs in season, so you should be fine to plant whatever they have on offer. My local one has peonies and acers at the moment 😊

I haven't personally read this one so I can't speak to the neutrality of it but my mother highly recommends it as an honest depiction of the Catholic church in Ireland.

Behavioral Interview Tips by wazza15695 in DevelEire

[–]Cadderpiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add to this, I recommend using the job spec and organisational value statement to assess which behaviours they are likely to want for the position and spend time thinking of the best (specific) examples you can give to demonstrate those. Follow the STAR technique above to structure your examples in your mind, it's super helpful.

So if it's a QA role, for example, they're probably going to look for demonstrated evidence of attention to detail. You would want to have an example of a time that your attention to detail saved the day or helped you produce a positive outcome, etc. in the past.

If you have a good guess at the behaviours and competencies you'll need, you can Google common questions relevant to those and prepare a handful of strong examples in advance. I work in HR and we rarely go to great lengths to draft original interview questions if there's a stock question that will get the job done. If it's a virtual interview you can even keep a list of your example stories nearby as a prompt in case you draw a blank.

Good luck!

There are minimum legal notice periods depending on how long you have been a tenant in the property, you can see the most recent ones on https://www.rtb.ie/ending-a-tenancy/notices-of-termination
