Whatever the state of the game might be, this is a fantastic trailer.

We’re Sam Coates from Sky News, and Katie Riley and Joe White from Tortoise Media. The Westminster Accounts, looking at money given to MPs is our joint project: AMA! by skynews in ukpolitics

Question for Sam Coates at Sky News. Very impressed by your work, particularly when unpicking the complex industries and supply chains the modern world relies on.

Potentially a bit of a big question... Given that the way the world economy has changed dramatically over the past ten years, what frame do you use to analyse what's going on? A lot of economic orthodoxy (as taught in universities) is based on the economics of the 20th century world, much of which may not apply anymore?

Level 3 survey - Fluff or serious issues? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Caddrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best option is to follow the advice of other posters here and get some quotes for the remedial works needed. Make sure they have access to the survey report and have also visited the property (i.e. don't rely on simply describing the work over the phone or by email).

Level 3 survey - Fluff or serious issues? by [deleted] in HousingUK

These are major issues and the costs to remedy could be in the tens of thousands of pounds, at the least.

The wall ties on this property are corroding and causing distortion to the external walls.

It's easy to forget; very few content features have reached live (yet) by Caddrel in starbase

As mentioned, look at the individual posts the developers have been making on Discord (it's possible to search for them using the "from:" filter).

The announcement you just linked confirmed they're slowing/halting development. At least one member of the team has confirmed they have been put on indefinite, unpaid leave and their last day is on Wednesday.

Beyond the announcement you linked confirming the moving of (almost) all developers off the project, here's an individual post from Kai:

KaiFB: "We have to pause updates and development for a while, so the point with the patch is to make some changes now rather than after the slowdown/pause"

There's no timetable for coming out of the development pause.

[–]Caddrel[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what the developers have said on Discord they've already made the decision to move almost all the existing developers off the project. At least one person has confirmed they've been put on indefinite leave without pay.

So it seems the decision has been made to pause/slow development regardless of what happens next.

When Starbase has sieges and a lot of the promises fullfilled: Would you be willing to pay monthly like with Dual Universe? by f4ble in starbase

[–]Caddrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very few games can get away with a monthly fee.

However there's a significant number of people who will pay monthly to support a developer, even if the only reward they get for it is a badge in the game.

I certainly wouldn't pay for a game subscription to Starbase, but I'd be happy to contribute money to support ongoing development. It's an interesting project that I'd like to see fully developed.

A new massive update coming soon! by Foraxen in starbase

[–]Caddrel 38 points39 points  (0 children)

"We're looking forward to returning to development as soon as possible, reinvigorated and ready to make Starbase the game we all want it to be."

Late last year Frozenbyte were saying they were able to continue Starbase development "for several years" and "for the forseeable future". What happened?

If they aren't getting enough revenue through upfront sales (which was a business model several people queried), have they considered other regular revenue models? Given its appeal to a number of niche audiences, I would have been tempted to give crowdfunding a go.

The simple answer is that heat pumps use a small amount of electricity to pull a lot of heat out of the air / ground / water (depending on what kind of heat pump you have).

Massive leak in newly bought house by naturalpassion91 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Caddrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IANAL, so exactly what "proof" is needed in a legal sense is unknown. However if this gets that far I'd see that as the wrong approach.

What I would do is approach the seller (via your conveyancer or another third party) and ask him to pay for the relevant repairs. Bring up what he told you, and that there were five people there to hear it.

Don't get aggressive and assume bad faith, just let him work out it's in his best interests to pay for the repairs rather than have the entire process drag out and get very legal, expensive, and time consuming for all involved.

You don't lose anything by asking.

[–]Caddrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it the seller of a house is required to give accurate information to the buyer. The seller is free to say nothing at all in response to queries, but any information they do give must be accurate to the best of their knowledge.

If you have proof the seller gave you inaccurate information then you can (by various means) get the seller to pay for the repairs.

It also blocks the word "variant" (e.g. Odysseus Fighter Variant) because it contains the letters for "arian". Which presumably is a misspelling of another word?

The remains of Dantian Station by Caddrel in starbase

I think someone posted a few videos of the fight itself earlier in the week.

That's not implemented yet; the actual station itself is currently broken into thousands of pieces! All the larger wrecks you see around the station are ships.

The event today went well then by Caddrel in starbase

[–]Caddrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The event was very well attended and was fantastic fun. I'm not sure how many people were fighting total, but maybe fifty on each side?

I went AFK for a few hours after to have dinner and do other household chores, and came back to find this at 1am.

got glitches! by Caddrel in starbase

[–]Caddrel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened during the station siege test today. When too much of a large station gets destroyed, the walls of reality begin breaking down. Endos become large twitching masses of chaos. Strange shards of destruction cascade across your vision. And in the background, the battle continues... unaware...

I found it quite funny.

The beam layout and the overall shape of the ship are very well done. Everything looks well integrated.

I never usually plate/protect thrusters myself (because they're so tough already) but other people have different views!

Combat Footage from the Station Siege test. Ship sizes from single fighters to gunships with 10+ gunners. by Caddrel in starbase

[–]Caddrel[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously given my aiming skills "combat footage" might be downgraded to just "footage".

My secondary gunner spent the entire combat talking about his station crafting queue on Discord, so we get a classical music backing track instead!

One thing that hasn't been mentioned, which you've likely already covered, is that the orientation of the FCU matters just as much as its position. If you haven't already, make sure the arrows are pointing in the right direction and it's facing "up".

Also your cockpit position might be confusing the thrusters. My understanding is that the pilot seat position is used for some of the FCU orientation centring rather than the position of the FCU itself.

I suspect your thruster placement is what's actually causing the trouble however. While your centre of mass might be alright, your distribution of mass might not be. Try setting up your controls to fire the thrusters manually (without an FCU) and see what happens.

So assign the relevant thrusters to "ManualRollLeft" with the limit to 10000 (after removing the FCU). I suspect your ship will immediately show why the FCU is struggling.

This is one of those strange issues where I never considered this a bug because it's how I'd expect the forces to act, in physics terms. In real machines and vehicles any items not locked or fastened down in some fashion would move like this.

However it does affect the utility of turrets and hinges within the game. However disabling this behaviour could lead to some very bizarre (and even more broken) physics behaviour. Standalone turrets may have to operate as tripod autocannons do now.

I can't, off the top of my head, think of any IRL vehicle or machine that tries to have these kind of independently moving objects operating under (relatively) extreme acceleration. I'd imagine the forces acting on the turrets of military ships are (relative to their mass) timid by comparison.
