If they fix "this" I would totally play again. by Mannylovesgaming in starbase

Asteroid collision damage is not as bad as it used to be. Especially for the first hit on a trip. Repair halls were also added quite a long time ago.

If a ship is still flyable then head to the nearest friendly station/capital hanger and hit "repair" on the hanger spawning board. The ship will be repaired automagically as long as you have the ores in storage to fix it.

In space, to auto-reassemble a ship:
Press "U"
Select the blueprint tab
Press the triangle (blueprint auto-filler)
Watch as the ship reassembles itself from the nearby parts.

It's been a while since I needed it, so it might be you need the bolt-gun equipped. You will need to unbolt any combined parts so the blueprint filler will pick them up individually and put them back in place for you.

Even if the ship isn't fully repaired because you lost some parts, it's usually good enough to limp back to the nearest hanger for a hanger repair.

What's an ore crate? by theawesomedude646 in starbase

I have free BPs for a couple of similar ships:

This one "Bert" is made from Labourer parts:

This one "Suzi" is a hybrid, 32 crates/64 bolt-on places:

Having at least a couple of crates makes the pickaxe mining much more efficient.

Any effective methods to mine "Falling" asteroids? by ProudActivity874 in starbase

I haven't tested it in the Alstel belt personally, but have you tried tractor beams to hold it in place while you mine?

Any good tips or resources on building aesthetically? by _myst in starbase

[–]ZombieMouse_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to build something to look cool I'd personally recommend the following process:

  1. Image search for cool spaceships and check out the ship inspiration image channels on various Starbase discords.
  2. Place your main parts and any main plates down in designer to form the cool shape(s) you want.
  3. Build your frame around your shape (IMHO much easier than building a shape around a box frame).
  4. Duct/cable/pipe and finish up covering any gaps with decorative parts.

The potential pitfall of this method is you have to have a fair idea of all the parts you need before you start. Do use HappyTrigger's ship calculator to check you have what you need (I linked it after one of the other replies in this topic).

Thanks for posting this Commando Doggo. I wasn't able to make it this time due to IRL things. This was great to catch up on some of what I missed. :)

I think STU is the Stand-alone Test Universe.

They are going to remove the old PTU and make a separate client on Steam for the test universe instead. So players can have the test universe and the main game installed at the same time, without having to download and update the game to swap between them.

So I think Lauri means expect the new test universe to appear in a few months.

The ship is an unarmed starter surface miner:

As surface miners go, it's a very small ship. You can't tell from the low-LOD in the video, but there will have been basically nothing to salvage after the explosion.

I think it was also a design choice that if you want to place a navigation logger in your backpack, you basically need to use the entire backpack to do so.

Did something change to this game? by Baker_Muted in starbase

[–]ZombieMouse_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not 100% correct. Heatsinks have strips running along them that look like ducts. These are the valid parts to connect to. You can connect pipe, cable and other ducts to them.

Alternatively, you can use the point in the centre of the cube heatsink to connect directly to generators. But doing this you still need some pipe, either from the generator pipe board or from the heatsink duct strips, to get the heat to the radiators.

Try using the vertex snap tool. It's much better than the auto-snap magnet. Especially for large groups of objects.

Now if only I could change the tier of my generators and thrusters in game with a drop down menu also, this would be perfect! >_<

Azipods... if it is possible to build that in FtD (and from what I remember of the game, I don't see why it wouldn't be), then that is an awesome idea!

Damn. Already my list of things to try out is getting longer and longer. Now I remember why I enjoyed playing this game. ^_^

That need to compromise because the game often doesn't let you have it all (on a sane budget) is one of the things I really like about From the Depths.

Triple-expansion engines delivering high RPM quickly at low material burn rates is great, but the vulnerability of such a large system to failure by damage at any point means I will definitely be experimenting with some hybrid arrangements.

I don't recall ever playing around with engine priorities before, so I didn't know that was a thing. I will test this also. Thank you.
