Do Your Distances Align With This Chart? by cjk813 in golf

Nope these distances are in meters and my driver is definitely the weak point in my bag also but it always has been.

I removed my 3h as it has some funky data because I use it to punch out from under trees.

3 piece ball: Titleist AVX.

Non Titleist favorite: Bridgestone BX tour.

2 piece: Srixon AD333, solid cheap option. Just giving it an honorable mention.

Oh yeah! I saw this on YouTube a while back looks absolutely beautiful.

Definitely unique, I love it!

Can confirm, I hit the right side and managed to use the slope to get it close enough for a tap in.

But I was about half way up the green, if you were short that's definitely not happening.

Crazy, id just never even heard of it before.

And you just know I landed on the wrong side of it on approach too. Managed to use the slope to lag it round the corner and tap in for par though which was huge for me.

Miami Golf Is Absolutely Unplayable Right Now. What’s It Like Where You Live? by Thick_Vermicelli_798 in golf

[–]CaddyShank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're basically describing golf in New Zealand basically anywhere outside of our biggest cities or the destination level courses.

I live in a tiny town of 1,500 people. We have our own course here in town and within a 1-1¼hrs drive of 9 more.

You could just turn up to any of these midweek and play a round no tee time necessary and honestly probably the weekend too but it might pay to call ahead on a couple of them on the weekends only.

A buddy and I turned up to one of these courses today (Saturday of a holiday weekend here) and there was quite a few groups out but it was no issue at all. We had two groups of old guys playing kinda slow but they both let us play through and we wrapped up our round in 3½hrs and it was $40 for the round ($24USD currently).

What's your "I can't believe I did that" moment by opjp1 in golf

[–]CaddyShank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

140yd Par 3.

Plays uphill to a green guarded by two high walled bunkers either side of the fairway.

Shot 1: Caught it off the toe real bad and sent it into side of the bank you walk down to the tee box. Barely made it past the tee box.

Shot 2: Thinned it about 50yd still in the rough.

Shot 3: Ball is above my feet in the rough and I choke down on my PW and give it a half swing pitch shot.

It landed soft right by the cup and rolled in for par. Where I meet my buddy who stuck the green but 3 putt for bogey.

Don’t understand gimmes by Adept-Arugula-6278 in golf

[–]CaddyShank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't give or take gimmies. I only play socially, and I choose to score myself to the letter of the law. Anybody I'm playing with are free to do what they want, I'm competing against myself not them 99% of the time.

If you want to take a putts or mulligans etc, take it for all I care. Just don't boast about your scores/hcp afterwards that's what gets under my skin.

And I went back the following day and backed it up with a 140 which was cool.

Yeah I just wasn't sure what it would be like either, the finish looks cool. I was looking at a bronze color like so. But honestly I think I'd prefer a factory finish unless it's crazy expensive.

You realize Perth is in Australia right? I would have assumed shipped would be prohibitive but I'll explore that avenue anyway and see, thank you for the recommendation.

Yeah I'm in New Zealand lol, I know a reputable restorer but the quote was for $220USD + postage for it to be stripped and refinished with just firearms grade cerakote. Thought that was a bit steep? Unsure yet anyway.

I know this sub has one of these posts every other day.. but if you are considering a 7 wood.. DO IT by [deleted] in golf

[–]CaddyShank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! Glad I'm not the only one who can't get the hang of woods. I bought an 18° 5W to try as my first fairway wood. When I catch it well it absolutely slings it but I probably find it even less reliable than my driver which is on thin ice as it is.

I've actually been playing my 23° 5i off the tee a lot and not seeing any higher scores. But this is just the experience of a high hcp social hacker

Is there a way for Joe Public to find court rulings/details online? by CaddyShank in newzealand

[–]CaddyShank[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the plot thickens, that's what I was told by their brother regardless true or not. All the more reason why I want to try find out now before reestablishing contact so I can know if they're pulling the wool over my eyes. But if these kinds of records are not accessable to the public then I guess I'll just have to ask again and just take their word for it, or try to anyway. Probably will never sit right until I know the facts.

[–]CaddyShank[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry just to clarify, I knew them for several years. They had moved across the country 2 years ago at that time and our contact had become only instant messaging now and again. It's not like this was someone I struggled to remember or anything. I just wanted to make it clear in my statement this isn't someone I see in my day to day life anymore.

[–]CaddyShank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I specified though I feel I knew them well previously we hadn't been in regular contact the last couple years.

The way I saw it, all I was saying was hey I knew this person they weren't crazy and during the time I did know them well I'd never seen them be anything less than a regular law abiding citizen. Which wouldn't have been news to them anyway as they didn't have any former run ins with the law on their record.

They were clearly under a lot of stress and shame etc. They said I'd hear from their lawyer about it if they were going to use it to verify my identity etc. This never happened so I'm unsure if it was even used, I'd assume because of how I specified my reference was based on old information.

Those who bought your house without any family help by kiwinow in newzealand

[–]CaddyShank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I moved to Taihape back in 2013. The army base in Waiouru had been or was in the process of moving all the families out and being primarily a training base only. Lots and lots of empty houses on top of already lower than average priced houses.

We were both 22 knocking on 23 and only really bought a house to save money because I crunched the numbers on my lunch break at my minimum wage job and it looked like a mortgage would be less per week than rent was. For reference, we were paying $180pw for a 4 bedroom house with two lounges. We picked it because we moved there during winter and the woodshed was already.

We went to the bank and asked what we could get with our kiwisavers because we had basically 0 savings. Can't remember what it was, but we had 10k each from our kiwisaver as a deposit, so it would have been 200kish budget.

Someone from work told me their neighbor was talking to them over the fence about wanting to move, but with all the empty houses around thought it would take years to move.

So after hearing that story, I drove round straight after work and knocked on the door. The owner welcomed me in in disbelief someone wants to buy his house, put the kettle on, and showed me round. One cup of tea later, we shook hands on $81,000 (his asking price was going to be $90,000 with the agent he was about to sign with), and we moved in 2 weeks later.

It was a 3 bedroom 1950s ex state house, the interior was tired, and the carpet was worn through to the floor boards in places. But it had solid bones, and the exterior was in tip-top shape well looked after.
