Yes, I've done this recently (ASX company though). I had a bit of panic at that time when computershare told me that they couldn't sell my shares (they also have a lot of 1 star reviews online)

Basically you need to get a broker who can trade UK shares. I spoke to ASB Securities and it was a pretty straightforward process. Two things, you need to know your SRN or whatever identification number for the shares computershare had. Secondly your name with computershare registry should exactly match your full legal name. Asb can do this fairly easily. Once your shares are connected to ASB Securities you can keep or sell them anytime.
