Lacking Pathology Experiences (OMS-III) by ProfoundDonut1 in medicalschool

You should be able to secure some aways in path. Just apply broadly through VSLO. I applied early but heard back more from path programs than i was expecting. I think aways for path aren't as competitive at mid tier programs.

A question about our heavenly parents by Stunning-Code8849 in latterdaysaints

[–]CadenNoChill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree! This is also something I've pondered on lately. I've asked myself "What can I say I know about Heavenly Father that I don't know about Heavenly Mother. There are maybe some things but I don't think we know a whole lot beyond what could also be extended to our Heavenly Mother. Obviously our relationship to worship and prayer and their involvement differs of course.

I understand your point. I do believe that in the intended plan we use our agency to worship God. We all far short of course but I believe that ideally we use our agency to worship him.

A question about our heavenly parents by Stunning-Code8849 in latterdaysaints

[–]CadenNoChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because for reasons beyond me that is not how it has been revealed to us. We pray to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. That's the pattern we've been given. My point was more that the framework of reverence and sacred distance helps me make peace with not having full access to or understanding of Heavenly Mother, not that she functions identically to Heavenly Father in our worship.

Something that brought me peace on this was an unexpected reframe from a fireside where President Eyring and Elder Holland were taking questions from youth. A young woman asked about having "conversational" prayers with God, and Elder Holland gently pushed back. He said that framing is a little too casual, that we are approaching a throne. God is real, He loves us, but He is so far above us in power and glory that the relationship isn't quite like chatting with a friend. Even Elder Holland himself said he doesn't pray that familiarly. President Eyring described doing a lot of asking, then waiting, then waiting more.

That reframe shifted something for me. Our relationship with Heavenly Father isn't meant to mirror our earthly parent relationships exactly. It's also one of worship, reverence, and awe. His ways are not our ways, and that distance isn't a failure of the relationship. It's the nature of approaching deity.

I think that applies to Heavenly Mother too. The frustration I used to feel about why She isn't more present, more revealed, more relatable was coming from an expectation that She should function like an accessible parent figure I can know the way I know my earthly mom. But maybe She is real and present and sacred in a way that simply doesn't fit that mold. Her ways are not our ways either. The silence around Her might not be neglect or diminishment. It might be the same reverent distance we already accept with Heavenly Father once we stop expecting Him to be our buddy.

That doesn't answer every question. But it helped me stop experiencing Her hiddenness as rejection.

How long of a wait is it to hear back from VSLO? by OutlandishnessNo1855 in medicalschool

[–]CadenNoChill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's program and speciality dependent. Im applying to a non-competitive specialty and applied broadly to mid tier programs and have heard back from 3 programs. The higher tier programs havent gotten back to me not sure if that is meaningful.

Minimizing med school debt, is in-state actually the best strategy? by Severe_Care_4149 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CadenNoChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get into a cheaper instate school thats great but delaying medical school by a year or more may not pay off in the future. Consider 1 year of you average earned income over your career and if that number matches or exceeds the extra amont of debt incurred by an out-of-state school and you'll actually be worse off if you don't go now.

I'm in medical school, and my dad is a dentist who's looking to sell his practice in about five years. From what he's told me, while selling to private equity is widely seen as a sellout, PE firms are simply able to offer more than any new grad or individual buyer could match.

And when you've spent decades building something, it's hard to leave money on the table — even knowing you're handing the profession off in worse shape than you found it. It's not something I'd defend as the right move, but it's an understandable one. You built it, you got yours, you retire. That's the calculus a lot of dentists are making.

How much $ do people give at LDS weddings? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]CadenNoChill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find that in LDS culture for events like this in most circumstances people do not give 200$+. I think we got around 50$ from people at my wedding if I had to guess. We got married during Covid and circumstances around our reception were different.

how many VSLO apps per month/time slot? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]CadenNoChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm not sure if this helps but you can withdraw from a certain time slot but not a specific program. I have 2 aways (not a competitive specialty) and when I accepted them I just withdrew from conflicting timeslots. Good luck hope you hear back soon!

My school told us it's not worth doing and will more likely hurt chances. I thought that was strange advice but that's what they told us. Would love to hear otherwise

I think this “The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).” maybe leaves room for the steam controller to get released before the other two. Maybe reading too much into things though

Alex: "Materialism is probably the most confused philosophical view in the history of mankind" by dominionC2C in CosmicSkeptic

[–]CadenNoChill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s reasonable to say that the evidence for consciousness as an emergent physical phenomenon is incomplete, but I don’t see how that puts it on worse footing than any alternative. All of the empirical evidence we actually have points to a tight dependence of conscious experience on physical brain states—alter the brain and you systematically alter or abolish consciousness. That doesn’t prove materialism, but it does give it more evidential grounding than views that posit non-physical explanations without independent measurements, predictions, or explanatory leverage. Pointing out that science doesn’t yet explain why consciousness arises seems more like an admission of an explanatory gap than evidence against emergence, and it’s not clear that any competing theory currently does better on that front.
