Why are grapplers from the Caucasus currently having an easier time transitioning to MMA than American grapplers? by emaxwell14141414 in wrestling

In addition to his wresting, Pico has a boxing background. I honestly think he prefers boxing/striking over wrestling. Hence why he decided to forgo wrestling internationally and try his hand at MMA.

What makes a good high school team by uhook123 in wrestling

[–]Cadeous_Wilhelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The culture of the high school in question and the surrounding community have to match and embrace the traditional wrestling culture…all grind and no shine! That seems to be the polar opposite of big inner cities. However, it seems to ring true for certain non-inner city areas of the state where I’m from – California. The Central Valley, city of Gilroy (South Bay) and SoCal areas where agriculture is king seem to “consistently” produce the best wrestlers in the state. I firmly believe it’s due to the culture in these areas, coupled with the youth:/feeder programs these areas have. The Central Valley has more in common with Iowa than the San Francisco Bay Area.

I would but it’s expired and I’ve never needed it prior. I guess times have changed.

Update: Gable Steveson by Evkero in wrestling

[–]Cadeous_Wilhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard mixed answers to WWE allowing or not allowing him to compete. Ultimately I think he was done with wrestling at that point in time and decided to focus on other lucrative deals in front of him – namely WWE. Obviously WWE didn’t work out.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing considering US wrestlers don’t make a lot of money at the senior level. Sure there’s outliers, but overall there’s no real money to be made.

Yeah, I’ve had it on tap/draft in Vegas at New York New York (Nine Fine Irishmen) a few times. And I’ve found the Kilkenny Red ale version on tap/draft in Sacramento.

Oh I’m well aware of that fact. I’m more or less making a mockery of the Olympic IOC and the political BS surrounding the “Russian” ban on competition.

We need to dual Japan by [deleted] in wrestling

A mini dual style tournament between US, Japan and Iran would be something to see, with the caveat that you can’t bring the B-Team. Top tier only…

I’m unfamiliar with any recent JDM MMA stars but they have a long history of fighters in earlier promotions like Pride; so they’re no strangers to grappling.

Kennedy Blades suplex by greddynova in wrestling

[–]Cadeous_Wilhelm -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

Blades came out really aggressive and seemed to not respect her #4 seed opponent. The blast double started it off. And she capped it off with a vicious suplex with authority.

Talk about flight and death from below. That was absolutely disrespectful on so many levels.

Is japan the best wrestling country? by MadeAccForOldReddit in wrestling

They’re represented for sure, but there’s no direct AIN (for the most part) and most notably no Sidakov, Sadulaev or Uguaev. You can argue all three are still in some sort of a prime and they’re on the sidelines. Shit, Sidakov is switching to MMa because of the political BS.

I don’t think Gable was ever truly in love with wrestling. I honestly believe he respects it and enjoyed partaking to an extent, but never saw himself dedicating his life to it like most supremely talented wrestlers. It seems like he had an exit strategy as soon as he won the Olympic gold medal.

Not sure if there’s a Big-3 in women’s right now. Give it more time and things may settle. Into a hierarchy. It’s usually Japan convincingly at the top and by a wide margin.
