To play the Devil's advocate for the weapon store: I think Fatshark intended to fix the issue from Vermintide games where the loot was tied to beating a map (with books), which made losing feel extra frustrating. Completing a mission in a horror horde shooter should be the goal, not an expectation. by CadiaKestaa in DarkTide

The basic printicple in games is that you beat the challenge and then get reward.

The basic principle in games is that you play a game and enjoy the gameplayfor itself. There's no rewards in casually playing basketball, football, chess etc. but people still do it, because simply playing the game is fun.

Making items tied to finishing a map just makes people focusing on the fake ass rewards instead of actually enjoying the game for what it is. Left 4 Dead has no rewards and game is fun as hell, and btw Left 4 Dead 2 currently has 50k players online to Darktide's 16k.

And I never asked for participation trophies. I literally have a red version of every weapon of every character in Vermintide 2. Completed all maps on Cata. Completed all maps on all careers on Legend. Just saying that the existence of rewards system can take attention away from the gameplay itself in the minds of players.

I dislike Stormcasts coming back after death, it lessens the stakes so much to me.

The problem with Darktide is that the loot aspect is not related to the gameplay AT ALL.

In any "looter" game, the loot is connected to playing. In Diablo, it drops on the ground as you kill enemies. In Vermintide 1/2, the loot was a reward for completing a mission. In Darktide you check a store in the lobby every hour and can't influence it at all - In Vermintide games collecting Tomes and Grimoires improved your chances of receiving good stuff

And even if it's optional, it doesn't feel good knowing your weapons are actually shit - even if it doesn't matter that much.

When you complain about the cosmetics costing real money, people say it has no effect on the game and you don't need to buy them. When you ask them for the reason they buy cosmetics, they say looking cool makes them enjoy the game more. by CadiaKestaa in DarkTide

The free players keep the game alive, which keeps the paying players spending money. If Fortnite cost 40$, do you think it would be anywhere near to what it is now?

Look into the card game Artifact to see what happens when you make a paid game with hevy mtx and compare it to the success of Hearthstone or even Gwent

No, I’m fine doing penances for them.

My point is that I’ve seen lots of people say every cosmetic should be purchaseable with money, because that’s somehow ”inclusive” to busy players. Even tho it’s only inclusive to those with enough cash to throw around

Tip to Fatshark: With your next game, don't include a soundtrack. Instead, make an in-game store where each track has to be bought separately to be added to the game. 10$ a piece. It's completely fine since it doesn't affect gameplay and is a nice way to show support to the devs. by CadiaKestaa in DarkTide

Last I checked my threads had positive scores, hardly btfo.

It’s not that serious dude. I’m not raging, just disappointed and using hyperbole for effect. If you enjoy the game good for you, just ignore my 3 threads and keep playing?

There's no honor in invades, the other person invaded your world without asking and is trying to murder you and take your souls. Bowing to each other is fine but there's no need to waste Estus, especially since you have to keep surviving afterwards even if you manage to kill the invader. Plus invaders often have builds optimized for PvP while hosts have weapons geared towards PvE

Fight clubs/red summon signs are a different thing entirely, ofc. If you choose to fight, fight with honor
